Administering Corid a second time - how soon?

Thanks for getting clarification. I did 3/4 tsp of powder corid in one gallon of water followed by 1/3 tsp/gallon. This was said to be the "moderate" outbreak dosage.

Administering Corid a second time - how soon?

A couple cornish cross were showing some mild signs of cocci so I went with the moderate dose (3/4 tsp) of Corid for 5 days followed by 1/3 tsp for 7 days. They have been back to regular water for 2 days now and I am seeing one display cocci symptoms yet again. I'm thinking I want to re-treat...

Which feed for a Freedom Ranger with an injured leg?

Thanks for the reply! I went ahead and switched to 18% while it is still healing up. We decided that this one can stay with our layers eventually and be spared the freezer. I've read that unlike cornish cross, freedom rangers can live healthy lives well past their processing date.

Which feed for a Freedom Ranger with an injured leg?

I have a 2 week old freedom ranger who, at about a week old, started shuffling around on just one leg. The other FRs (I have 30 of them) kept trampling him so I quickly isolated him to another brooder. I originally had another chick in there for company but even just the one extra chick was...

Not letting them eat for a few days

I like your cracked corn idea, I think I'm going to try that next time! We had some delays the last time I helped a friend butcher her freedom rangers and the roosters began to get more aggressive towards each other, I'm guessing because they were pretty hangery by then.

Preventative Treatments - Cocci Vaccine vs Amprolium

Interesting with the well water! Thanks for your insight! How do you distinguish between the risky and less risky periods of their lives? I know a lot can go wrong in first and last couple weeks - are there other periods during the grow-out or do you mean the times when they are not on Corid...

Preventative Treatments - Cocci Vaccine vs Amprolium

Thanks so much for your response. I had read your post when reading about this topic previously and it was very helpful. From all of my reading, it seems like medicated feed, corid, and vaccinating (all on their own) are good ways to prevent cocci. But perhaps vaccinating is less popular since...

    Need a knife...

I use an Outdoor Edge Razor hunting knife. It has replaceable blades so you can swap them out as soon as they begin to feel dull.

Preventative Treatments - Cocci Vaccine vs Amprolium

Thank you for this! Really good points. Much appreciated. I can see how the "preventative" dosing could cause issues.

Preventative Treatments - Cocci Vaccine vs Amprolium

Thanks for the info and insight! And thanks for also questioning the '5 week' corid application. I was trying to figure out where I got that number and I must have mixed up some of the info I had on the vaccine. Regarding the cocci vaccine, the hatchery says, "Please note: this vaccine is...

Preventative Treatments - Cocci Vaccine vs Amprolium

Hi All, I raised a flock of 35 cornish cross a couple years ago. It was successful for my first time around, but I did have issues with what I suspect was cocci. I ended up using Corid in their water to get the situation under control, but not before we lost 4 or 5 birds. I'm still pretty...
