Big fan of the Oxford comma! I know what you mean... I wear an 11. I once tried on a men's 10 that was too small...

No, not at all related. It's funny you mention that, as when they were little, they looked like they could be. When we were little (late 60s), the neighborhood kids used to say that I was adopted, and my brother and sister were the "real kids." Remember, this is back when not many families...

I swear some of this is hereditary. My brother and sister were adopted. We all grew up in the same house, from infancy. My brother and sister both have/had words that they said differently from what I do/my parents did. I sometimes say, "childern" or "hunderd." Or even "hunnert." It's easier...

We're out in the country, so there are all kinds of critters that want our trash. We only have a bag every now and then. I put the bag on top of the neighbor's dumpster. So far (knock on wood), that has worked. We have to put ours out Sunday night. They come early on Monday morning.

:thumbsupCool! Something I read as one of the best tips for newbies: Have two hives, not just one. The reason is, when you're new, you don't know what everything should look like, and it's VERY helpful to have another hive to compare it to. I wish we'd done that.

Ditto! I had a math teacher who sometimes wrote test questions on the board instead of using the ditto machine (remember those? their smell?). If you got the question wrong, he would check to make certain you had copied the problem correctly. If your answer was correct to the problem you had...

Ah! I had not thought of that possibility. So many platforms, so many devices! Thank you for adding that. Familiarity breeds contempt...? If you don't have to think about how to say something, it just pours out, unfiltered. When learning a new language, you are often taught "the rules" of how...

I know what you mean. When I read thoughtful, intelligent posts here, any typos roll right on by. I grew up when published writing was professionally edited, and typos were rare. That was the standard, and I tried to hold myself to it as well. Yup, yup, yup. I have felt my eyes glaze over, and...

I know some people are typing on their phones. Fine. I'm talking about people who write posts that look like a text to friend with no punctuation and "text" spelling. I have stopped even trying to read them.

I have a lot of respect for people on here for whom English is NOT their native tongue. Or people who are recovering from a stroke, and typing words again is a miracle. But if this is not you and all you can type is "text speak," u cn go away UR not impressing me

I had a coworker who insisted she "had to know where Sally was at all times!" The building was laid out strangely, and you could walk around looking for someone who was walking around looking for you. She'd walk around, looking for me, while I was chasing down something/someone else. One time...

Can you use it to wash your hair? As far as soap goes, shampoo is the most "contactful soap" I get with my hands. I wear rubber gloves almost all the time for any wet work in the kitchen/bathroom.

The crack in the skin on the end of my thumb. If you continue the line of the inside edge of the nail about another 3/16" that's where it is. The area of your thumb that contacts the space bar. The part you flex with gripping and twisting. When I used to work at the photolab, it was close to...

When I see a newbie having trouble that I don't know enough to help with, sometimes I'll tag people who can. I've been the newbie who needs help and was ignored (not here; different situation) and if someone had offered to go get someone who could help, that would have been... helpful. But...
