I am going to start holding back and breeding my cream crested legbar x buff Orpington crosses in an attempt to make my own back yard breed. How hard will it be to make them autosexing? What will the gen 2 crosses look like when they have 2 copies of the cream gene? Any advice on breeding...

I have a blue rooster. The hens are black and some are blue. I also have buff Orpington hens. I hadn’t considered them though, wouldn’t figure they would throw a blue chick.

I thought this chick was pure Australorp. The way her chest feathers are coming in make me wonder if the father isn’t a ccl. What do you guys think?

yes the rooster is listed first then the hen; CCL roo over blue Aust hen.

I hatched a chick that is CCL x blue Australop. It has a very distinct headspot even though it’s a cross. I can’t help but wonder if it’s a male, but maybe since it’s a cross breed it has no significance. What do you guys think?

I hatched out a few of the blue australorp x buff Orpington. They are all black with orange faces. Is there a chance I will get any blues if I keep hatching or is there something in the makeup of my buff orpingtons that keep them black?

If you crossed buff Orpingtons with BBS australorps and continued to breed the hybrids could you ever standardize color in the line to have both buff and BBS? Whether that be something like buff on top blue on bottom. Or just kind of mottled with buff and BBS?

can you breed crooked toes out of a line? what the odds of having straight toes from a breeding pair with crooked toes? Background, I had 6 legbars, 5 males. 1 female. they all have crooked toes to some degree. I have kept back the 2 best males for breeding,22 weeks old (1 crele, 1 cream)...

I have read it is better to use a dark egg rooster over a blue egg hen when making olive eggers. I have the opposite, CCL roo and marans hen. what differences can I expect? how could I create deeper olive or teal color eggs with this cross in future generations?

Are cream crested legbars crele? Or what would best describe them when trying to use the chicken calculator

I would be fine with the leg horns getting a bit bigger but would like to keep their ability to cope in heat and forage. Maybe a different lacing color would be easier.

What would be the best way to create a blue or white laced red leghorn?

gotcha. this stuff is kind of complex, so I am gathering I need to think of BBS as a color and not just blue. Is there a way to control how much buff vs how much BBS, and also the location of what feathers are buff vs what ones are blue?

I’m trying to make birds that have both the blue and buff colour. Maybe throwing splash into the mix might be a good way to accomplish this?

My other breeding project idea is a little more ambitious but essentially the same thing but adding crested cream legbars into the mix for the baring, crests, and blue eggs. I have no idea how to pull this off though.
