A kodiak fight would be even more lopsided in the bear's favor, honestly. You're adding more mass, more reach, and the same agility as a grizz, PLUS a temper.
The historical records for these kinds of fights were more than likely Eurasian Brown bear (Europe's version of a grizz). So. yeah.
Too far south. Most Roman women would have had dark hair unless they lightened it. Blonde hair was a mutation and had a higher occurrence in the north with the Gauls and proto germanic "barbarian" tribes outside the control of the empire.
Also. Ostrich wins. Roos are grapplers and need to get in close to get a good kick in or use their paws/claws. Very little to grapple on an ostrich, and those kicks are deadly from further away. Ostrich is faster and more agile too despite it's tall build.
Grizz. That mane isn't stopping a crushing swat from a grizzly, no matter how tough the lion is. The mass advantage and pure strength here are too much for even a large lion.
Sadly, there are numerous historical examples and accounts of this dating as far back as Rome. Bears almost always win.
