They should be able to put the doors, roosts, nests, anywhere you want them.

Oh, and I was wrong to say 12 chickens. . in a structure of any kind, measuring 8x4 feet, that's a total of 32 sq. ft. Providing 4 sq ft per chicken, that means it's actually only enough room for 8 chickens. If you want most of them to sleep out in the run. If I'm wrong, please BYC, feel free to...

    Bit if a dilemma here

Dimensions are given in inches/mm, calculated out it purports to be 8x4' by my calculations (approx). I can only assume these dimensions are "overall," meaning the exterior size of run and coop combined? Overall dimensions of the chicken coop: 105.1 in. L x 52.7 in. W x 73 in. H (2,670 mm L x...

4.4 sq. ft per bird? Or total? If total, that's only big enough for one bird!

You would want a little pop door at least that the chickens can go through to get to the run.

You can have the builders put in another door to give you access to the run from the coop if you think you need it. We don't, we just access the run from a gate.

    Bit if a dilemma here

Here's what your law says: local laws only allowing a maximum of 10 sq feet per bird in the run. Right? Nothing about the coop. The coop spaceis separate. You could, I believe, put them side by side and still be in compliance. They just don't want people having chickens running loose in their...

That would really diminish the run space, wouldn't it? They would not be able to get under the coop, so that's not usable space. Is there any way the coop and run can be side by side?

    Bit if a dilemma here

On that model, raising the roosting bar is impractical. Look how high the access door to the nests is, is on the outside of the coop. It's just under the eaves. A roost above that would be so high your hens couldn't easily get to it, would be terribly hot if they did, and would be bumping their...

    Bit if a dilemma here

Yeah, definitely have them either lower the nests or find out what it would cost to eliminate that drop-down door and the interior nests, and add a nesting box to the outside of the coop below the roosting bar, with human access on the outside, like a hinged lid. You don't need 6 nesting boxes...

    Bit if a dilemma here

There are no stupid questions here. How else will you learn? Chickens like to roost on the highest available surface. So you want your roosts high, nests low. Chickens poop at night so obvi you don't want them sleeping in the nests if you want clean eggs. Which you do!
