Silkie chickens are the sweet fluff balls of chickens. Their docile personality and stunning looks, capture the hearts of many people around the world. However, as chicks, the colors can be extremely hard to figure out. The eight APA-approved colors are: blue, self-blue (lavender), black, buff, gray, partridge, splash, and white for bearded. For non-bearded you can have blue, black, buff, gray, partridge, and white. You can see the difference between the partridge, buff, and white, but the other colors can look quite similar. WHAT COLOR DO I HAVE?
BLACK:
*True black silkies will not have a light under coat. If they have a light undercoat they may be a very dark blue.*
BLUE:
*These can look very similar to a black silkie, so be careful. The chicks main difference is that they will have different shades of black or blue on them. The adult color will also be lighter than black, or be just like black but, have a light undercoat.*

SELF BLUE (lavender):
*Chicks sometimes look similar to very light blues.*
BUFF:
GRAY:
*Look like blue or lavender untill older age in most cases. I do not have a chick picture.*
PARTRIDGE:
*Look like chipmonks when babies!*
SPLASH:
*Looks like blue or lavender until they start getting splashes of black on them!.*
WHITE:
*Sometimes look like splash in the beginning.*
