Have you ever cut open a sick or dead bird only to discover you don't know what 'normal' is? You can't diagnose pathology if you can't tell what is abnormal. Here's a labeled photo diagram of what a normal young adult laying coturnix quail hen looks like from the dorsal (top) view. The spine has been removed. The second picture is the same just expanded and with most of the reproductive and intestinal tract removed. The crop was removed with the neck so isn't pictured. The heart is ventral and therefore not visible from this angle. Healthy poultry livers can be a tan/beige color or the typical mahogany (per USDA website).
