This bird was so funny. She followed us all around the avairy. These pictures were taken at the Dallas Zoo. I will upload some more pictures later. Might even start a new thread. But isn't it pretty. I thought it was a hen, but after reading the wiki info I'm not sure. It could have been a tom.

Does anyone have these beautiful birds?

They are difficult to obtain for private aviaries. It is also my understanding they do not do well unless kept in groups. Certainly a beautiful bird, they are tropical and found in the Yucatan.

Wow you would need to keep them in an iron cage, with some kind of time release lock like the banks have. $5000 for 2 birds??? That's just crazy!!

LOL! I would have never expected that this is what occellated turkeys look like, i have heardof them a lot but never seen one! LOL!

Well then. I'm glad I didn't have my heart set on getting any...lol They are beautiful though.

The bird standing up I assumed was a hen until we walked the length of the aviary and I saw the smaller turkey laying down. Then I wasn't so sure. Neither of the birds were very large, but the one in all of the pictures was a bit bigger. Color wise they were both about the same. The way the sun was hitting the one laying down in that pic messed with the color. If the one standing up turned a certain way it lost the color as well. The wikipedia article mentioned the toms having a snood, which I did not see. I also didn't notice any spurs. I think I looked and didn't see any. I certainly can't tell in the pics or not...​
