Building a Recycled Coop

Nice! I built my coop from scrap dumpster wood too. Next to free is the best way to do it. How many chickens do you have?

Buffchicks, We have 6 chicks that I picked up on Feb 24th and they were all either a day or a few days old. We have 2 Buff Orp, 2 SL Wyandottes, and 2 Americaunas (or Easter Eggers). How big is your flock? We can only have 6 here in town so I am limited, and no roosters so I am hoping all my girls are.....GIRLS!

I have 4 chickens. 2 Buffs opts and 2 Barred Rocks.

I almost got Barred Rocks, my close friends both have them in their flock, but I let my kids pick two of them and they wanted the Americaunas for the colored eggs

Found these little handles for the egg doors at a little resale shop here in town for a buck each, they were too cute

You can see the venting up top, it is covered with hardware cloth.

Back view of the egg collecting boxes. Decided to paint them with chalkboard paint so we can write the chickens names and their weekly egg talley...we'll see how that works out.

We put siding on the back to create a little sheltered corner underneath for the chickens.

touched up the paint & started the hardware cloth underneath the chicken coop.

We decided to put siding around two sides of the bottom of the coop, the chickens will have access under there and we decided a little wind break and sheltered area would not be amiss.

We had some spare paint left over from other projects and a few tester pots that I got from the "Ooops paint" area at HomeDepot so that will be what the trim color is :D I'd love to leave some of the wood but it is all old wood that needs the help of paint to protect it from the elements.

Our paint job getting started, this is the "oops" paint from home depot that I got for five bucks it was a Behr exterior with primer paint in the color "Midnight in Paris"...or what my hubby calls gray-blue
