    Roost and root

Sorry to hear of your experience with this coop. I wanted to chime in to say that I think the company - as do most companies that only sell coops (not a coop with a run, because there are those out there) - builds these types/sizes with the expectation that the hens will free range. It’s...

Will Adding Hens to Established Flock Make Them Mean?

Excellent! With what you are noting, I am thinking I’ll bring their very small coop and put that in my run and close that off with some chicken wire and maybe a bit of plywood for a no-see area. I can close off the original coop so the current hens can lay and roost but still have access to the...

Will Adding Hens to Established Flock Make Them Mean?

Thank you! Will their egg-laying cease or decrease?

Will Adding Hens to Established Flock Make Them Mean?

I’m considering doing this - and will take the necessary precautions of quarantine prior but curious … my flock of 10 is well established (2 years). They come when called, there are several very friendly ones. Will adding two new hens (same age - 2 years; adding due to death of owner) change...

I think my sweet boy lost an eye

Amazon carries it - or any type of Farm Animal store - you don't show where you are located ...

I'm tossing in everything but the kitchen sink ...

@Eggcessive - I've tried to do a search for Aqua-Mox dosage for chickens but not coming up with anything specific to Aqua-Mox. Can you help? My hen is about 2.5 lbs. Not sure this will work but willing to give it a shot. Thank you.

I'm tossing in everything but the kitchen sink ...

Thank you - I didn't know it could be given orally. I will do that going forward. I really, really appreciate your insight and help.:fl Someone also said to give Pen-G (instead of the Tylan, which is what I had avail at TSC - Penicillin wasn't avail). Is that going to do the same/similar at the...

I'm tossing in everything but the kitchen sink ...

She's roughly 3 lbs. I gave her one .25 ml does last night via injection. I will give her two more today of same dose. Her tail is a little more "up" today and her poop - although still white - is firmer. It's still a bit of a struggle to get her to eat but I'm trying and I have nothing to...

I'm tossing in everything but the kitchen sink ...

Her crop is not at all full in the a.m. From what I can tell, she’s not eating at all unless I feed it to her - either by putting it in her mouth or by her taking very minimal amounts from my hand. This is what I’ve been doing for four days. I called a vet on Tuesday a.m. but have not heard back...

Just curious if there’s a certain antibiotic I should be looking for?

I'm tossing in everything but the kitchen sink ...

@Wyorp Rock @Eggcessive @Kiki - I hope it's okay that I update you on the situation via this thread post - you have all been so helpful - thank you. In four days, the situation has not really changed. I have all chickens on Corid drench, and Safguard (individual doses) - they all look amazing...

I'm tossing in everything but the kitchen sink ...

I posted a message a few days ago about my 1.5 year old hen. She's not laid since March but has generally been fine until now. She - and her flock mates - are just finishing their molt but she has been lethargic, isolates herself. She is not really eating. She does not have mites. The - great -...

Sick, molting hen - I’m stumped.

@Wyorp Rock - thank you. I checked her vent/back end and don’t feel anything. I checked her feathers and there are still some pin feathers that have yet to “blossom” so moly may still be hurting. She ate some tuna and treats this am. I gave her some more NutriDrench and water. Will get Corid...

Sick, molting hen - I’m stumped.

You are right - it was Mareks. Ugh - so many things! I see I can get corrid at my Tractor Supply. Think it’s okay to treat for worms and coccidosis at the same time? If not, why would you treat for first?

Sick, molting hen - I’m stumped.

Thank you! And the corrid? I had them vaccinated when I got them from the hatchery? Is that for something different? Your help is very appreciated!!!
