Mixed ages in the flock right now. Some are between 6 months and a year and my oldest are a year and a half. The older ones are extremely friendly and dont peck ever. My barred rock that is being picked on is about a year old and the main ones picking on her were all raised together so they are...
Hey there everyone,
Came home from work today to find one of my girls beaten up pretty badly. All my hens were in good shape except for my one barred rock (oreo).
She was bleeding from her comb and even had some pecking done to the top of her head which had started drawing a minimal amount of...
Haha thank you! Since making that my profile picture we have adopted a second NE! Such an amazing breed of dog. And surprisingly they get along with our hens and help us herd them back to the coop after their free ranging session. Would recommend the breed to everyone!
Thanks to everyone for...
You may be right! Just googled some pictures.. Looks pretty similar.. They havent layed any eggs yet. They probably are stressed however. And Im not too sure of there age either. But that would probably be helpful if they decide to lay some eggs!
Not sure if it helps but these girls are FAST...
On my drive home from work the other night I came across 2 chickens roaming the street (in a forest-like area). I stopped my truck to have a look at them. Im use to seeing wild turkeys around my place but can honestly say I've never seen "wild chickens" I have a hunch that someone in the area...
Hey everyone,
Not only am I new to the backyard chicken scene but this is also my first year at attempting a vegetable garden with my Fiancee. Were trying to be more self-sustainable so decided to grow our own veggies this year.
Our plot isn't very big and doesn't have to much, just the basic...
Hey everyone,
So I have been reading a lot on here about using sand and its really starting to peak my interest. Our coop/run are newly built and im still really fresh to the backyard chicken world and I am learning more and more tricks every day. Ive been reading a lot about using sand inside...
Yeah there isn't any blood being drawn. It looks like their is progress being made too. On the first night the older hens didnt let them roost with them, and now slowly but surely they are getting closer to each other on the roost for warmth etc.
So I feel like their is some progress just...

We have 5 , 1 year old ISA Browns that are already established in our coop and are really happy and...
Can't explain how mad stuff like this makes me. Their are many other things city workers should be worrying about. Any way you can appeal it and explain how a mile down the road has different rules etc.
Hey does anyone locally know the basic laws for having chickens in these areas: Dundas, Flamborough and Hamilton area.
From what im told you have to have a minimum of 5 acres. However there are some agricultural properties around mine that aren't 5 acres. Not that I care, I support having...
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Still lots of upgrades to do on the Coop and what not, but they love it so far. It's so much fun to watch their reactions to new perches , snacks etc!
As for the pup in my picture he's a Norwegian Elkhound. So very similar breed. He's just over a year old...
