I had never heard of celtuce until this year. According to the Seed Savers catalog, it's also known as stem or asparagus lettuce and is often used in Asian cuisine. And, it has a "slightly bitter, yet refreshing, flavor."

I like the idea of cup hooks to attach bird netting! Last fall, after watching all manner of wildlife steal my strawberries every year, I built a 1-foot-high wooden frame over the bed and covered it in hardware cloth.
Considering the cost of lumber and HWC, the structure could pay for itself...

Amen to the frozen water situation! I have an Omlet, too, and like all my other coops/runs, I spend a good deal of time swapping out water dishes and thawing them indoors. I quit running heavy duty electrical cords to the coops...
