So, I hate to ask, but what happened to Henry?
I've been mostly gone for about a year after my life came crashing down around me and I had to rehome all my birds (except one elderly OEGB hen who is now an indoor chicken) and move back to the city. Still don't have my own place, I can't afford...
Second litter born, if a bit later than an hour. Only five, but they are big and fat!
These are from the litter born last night. First pic are the non-Rex, second pic are the Rex:
And these are from today, all Rex:
Can't wait for them to start getting fur!
BABIES!
And I got a fairly good mix. Half are Rex, half have regular fur (mom was split to Rex). Got three with the pattern I was hoping for, although only one of those is Rex. Not much variety in colour though, just blacks and black otters.
Waiting on the second doe that is due, she...
When you consider that rabbits have eight nipples, a little bit. Most rabbits can handle ten babies although they may not get fed as much. My Flemish Giant doe had ten live kits that made it to weaning. One of my mixed breeds had nine, and although two of them were a bit scrawny they all made...
Is it Spring yet??!! This weather is driving me nuts!
I managed to get the rabbit cages cleaned out on Tuesday, when it was just above freezing.
Had more babies born this week. These are full Standard Rex:
Eight little squirmies. Looks to be 2x black, 3x blue, 2x blue otter, and 1x lilac...
Okay, so... Yes, I still think it's just moulting. Some rabbits can go practically bald from it. Friend of mine had a doe do just that. If there are no underlying problems, I say leave it be.
I agree that you should be letting them figure things out between themselves unless blood *is*...
That all depends on how cooperative the hidden and non hidden genes are, lol! I have the basics, it's just putting them all together which could be one generation, or five. At least a rabbit generation can be every six months.
Mine actually preferred to dunk themselves in the snow as opposed to the water. They were very disappointing when Spring came. Each day there was less and less snow, and they pouted about it.
Tri Standard Rexes??
The fun in making the tricolours is that you need a specific combination of genes to get them, *plus* a specific type of broken for good markings. Blanket/booted brokens are preferred, and you need to have Harlequin.
I also love red rabbits, so working on those, too...
