I did not know about the leaves, so that is useful information! If I can get them going I will probably use the leaves, so I can donate the seeds to the seed library.

I have some purple coneflower seeds in cardboard pots now, so this is useful to know. I really need to look up which part(s) of the plant are supposed to be used for tea. 🤔 If I can cut it back for that early enough I hope it will be less of an issue.

If it helps I wrap a space blanket around the back of my grow light setup so the reflective surface will focus more light on the plants.

I had a handful of the peppers sprout today! 🙌 Mostly cayenne, but one or two of the fish peppers too. No ghost yet, but hopefully they’re on the way!

Apparently it was two stuck together, because Pot #4 finally had a sprout peek through the soil today. So guess I’m 5 for 4. 🤪

One of my tomato pots is getting the stink eye right now. There is what looks suspiciously like another tomato seedling at the base of the first seedling. 🤨 Best guess is they were two seeds stuck together or else I accidentally dropped the seed for Pot #4 into Pot #3 because that one remains...

For thinning I usually cheat and just put one seed per pot to begin with, or if they’re too small for that (EX: oregano) I just let them duke it out among themselves.

What did you do in the garden today?

I am currently at 3 out of 4 tomato seedlings. They got moved under the grow lights.

Sounds like you’re going to be doing well as far as syrup! Do you need to do anything about the holes in the trees when you’re done or do they just seal up on their own?

jerryse already responded but I’ll answer anyway. Scarification is the removal of part of the seed coating to allow water to access the seed more easily, and by extension trigger germination. So you take your pumpkin seed and rub it against sandpaper or trim away a little bit of the edge until...

What's your favorite source for heirloom seeds?

Seed swaps, seed libraries, and for purchase I’ve had good luck with MIGardener. I also got some Montreal Market Muskmelon seeds from Fedco last year that did well, and this year I’m trying some Fish Peppers from Baker’s Creek, we’ll see how that goes.

Two of my tomatoes sprouted! Two more to go! :yesss: My peppers haven’t done anything either yet. I haven’t done pumpkins or cushaw specifically before but did you scarify the seeds? (I feel like I asked this before. If I did I apologize for the repetition.) I did that with most of my big...

What did you do in the garden today?

I know I’ve been strongly reconsidering what I’m going to plant. The major part of my garden maintenance is looking like it will need to be put off regardless and the rest isn’t supposed to be until September. I was going to stick to short season stuff or things small enough to move easily -...

The 48 hours of soaking is done although I’m not sure why it turned the water green. 🤨 It’s planted now anyway. 🤷‍♀️ It’s on the heat mat with the peppers but that 80 degrees might not actually be warm enough in the long term. 🤔
