I went to a local pollinator plant club event and helped package seeds today. If only I could get the same level of motivation to finish packing up my own. 🤪
I’ve had my Northern Flicker come visit a few times over the last week. He keeps banging on the building. At first I thought someone was doing maintenance on the roof. 😅
I have titmice that do something similar!
Garlic needs to be vernalized (kept cold for a long period, usually through winter) to produce bulbs. That’s why it’s usually planted in the late fall. I’m told you can shove a couple bulbs in the fridge to vernalize them that way.
There are smaller varieties - the Silvery Fir seeds I got are only supposed to get around two feet tall, and I believe someone brought up microdwarf tomatoes a while back although I don’t remember the variety names off the top of my head. Tiny Tim maybe?

I have since made dedicated trellises and started paying more attention to the HOA maintenance...
Most of my plants this year will have to be small and/or sturdy enough to move or quick growing as I’m having maintenance done in my main garden area. I had to unwind pole beans and cart them inside once, I do not recommend it!
To that end I put some Iroquois Cornbread beans in pots a few days...
Good luck to you on the drought! Hand watering is tedious, that’s one of the reasons I’m looking into an irrigation kit.
Hope you feel better soon!
Thank you!
Happy New Year everyone! I have compiled my list of lessons learned from last season:
My shade garden boxes need more consistent watering than I have been giving them.
An irrigation kit might help with this.
The soil in my boxes is poor (extremely low potassium, nitrogen).
