Hi everyone! So this baby hatched out today, first ever from this parentage and I was surprised by the coloring! The hen was a 1st gen silkie mix (no idea the other breed) and the rooster is an EE. It doesn't look like my other EE chicks from the same rooster either. Does anyone have any ideas...

Do you only have hens? Our Black Australorp hatched May 1 and even in November wasn't laying eggs, but not even two days after we got a rooster she started!

Curious to see how this goes! I had a broody hen laying on a few eggs and then a week later (stupidly) put a couple more u see her, I think I'll have to set up something similar to this for those chicks hatch if she gets up to raise the other babies!
Hey everyone! I have 7 silkie hens and a splash silkie roo (in addition to an Australorp and Americana roo) and while they aren't as dependable layers as the Australorp they are docile as can be and the perfect broody moms. I have one right now sitting on 8 eggs from the Australorp/Americana!
