Well....with having ducks in the country and have lived in the city/small town for many years- I can say I probably wouldn't want ducks in my neighborhood either. They are TOTOALLY different than having a few chickens. And having that many females...they can be loud during the day for sure...
Can I ask what the neighbors complaints are?
How many ducks?
How are they housed?
Just trying to get an idea of what you have. I do have 6 ducks (5 female - 1 male).
When I got my goose pair, hatched April 2024- Clark and Eddie. I had no other geese and my ducks were hatched the same time. They were in separate areas. Clark would crawl on our laps and be social where Eddie NEVER has been. Clark passed away June/July 2024 from some illness but he always came...
I am a touch nervous my eyes would get taken out if I held him. I have picked him up before, he does NOT like it. He is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo FLUFFY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish he would let me hold and pet him.
One of my ducks has a hole in her web too. She walks fine, has never skipped a beat in health. We have rocks around the house in our landscaping, they go in very tall grass and fields. I just figured something happened in one of those places. :idunno They cruise around the 5 acre yard all day...
Summer weather has been nice this time of year. I got my winter fence up for the ducks/geese. Poor babies will not have the run of the 5 acre yard very soon. I will have to see their sad eyes and cries of sorrow soon enough when they aren't let out of the fence in the mornings. :( Honestly, they...
Ha!! I do that too!! Usually to try to get him to back off. It does work, sometimes.
I also treat my 10 year old French Bulldog like my baby so, I am kind of a pushover with animals. He "helps" me with chores...aka gets in my way, slows down the process, eats duck/geese poop, gets into the...
I have done all this and tried many things. I think I just have to deal with his mood swings like my DF deals with mine. LOL! Touch and go, day by day. :lau
He is pretty handsome so that helps not being mad at him very long.
(white fella Rusty and his wife Eddie)
Thank You for all the...
Mine have a pool in their hut for the moment but that will all get taken away when the weather cools off. They will get outside pools till it REALLY freezes. Then it is me taking out a 5 gallon bucket of water morning and lunch time when I swing in from work.
This is my hut, when I first got...
Now that someone mentioned it...my female will make noise and run around- he will follow suit and honk SUPER loud and charge at nothing or chase the ducks around for awhile.
He will come for me when I am letting him out in the morning. Or if he is admiring himself in the side of a vehicle (he...
This is my first whole year with a pair of geese and 6 ducks (5 girls and 1 boy). My gander was a complete tool this spring for obvious reasons. We worked it out- I just needed to watch my back most days. He calmed down after like 3-4 MONTHS!! Then molted- here is another excuse to be a tool...
We bought a 1/4 beef from a co worker-Angus- this past spring. It was $3 a pound to him then another $175 to the processor. We didn't get anything fancy made. 15 lbs of beef sticks, otherwise standard cuts. In the end, it came out to about $4-5 a pound for all across the board. Which is a good...
What is the cost of raising your own chickens for meat? Cost of the chick and feeding? Do you account for your time caring for them? Is the main cost in butchering, if you cannot do it yourself. How long does it take to raise them up?
In the end, is it about knowing where your chickens are...
I do not have much experience with chickens. I know they are not as hardy as ducks/geese nor as messy. A guy I work with uses a heat lamp, I know, I know, a HUGE no no for most. That's what he uses. And it keeps the temp above freezing in their hut. I use a heated water bowl from tractor supply...
