I had a 5 ft block fence around my yard. A bear came over the blocks and my Irish terrier went after the bear. She and the the bear were face to face my IT said the duck was hers and the bear said it wasn't. The bear jumped and went over with the duck.
From that time on they were shut up at night.
Straw is often sprayed. Put on your garden as mulch and you can lose your entire garden. I do not know how it affects chickens as I never used it around my chickens.
Definetely! That is one shaving I have not seen not sure it is ever kept. Jugalone is poisonous.
I think they ruled out rice...
We got our sawdust from the lumber mill. The chickens loved scratching in it and taking dust baths. The chicken house never smelled .
Pine shavings are used in commercial poultry houses. Does not cause any harm and breaks down when spread on the fields.
Can't totally agree with you. The neighbor's hunting dog which was bad about running away . Also killing chickens. He killed 8 of my laying hens one Sunday while we were at church. He ate the egg sac of two and the rest he just killed. They were the last chickens he killed.
If you have a power source at you chicken run.... I suggest an electric wire to keep predators away.
I have just bought a new place. The chicken pen is in shambles. I am guessing a bear tore the fence down. What ever it had to be big because the posts are down and broken.
I always threw an egg away if it was nasty. If the hen has diarrhea, something might be wrong. I had enough hens it did not really matter. But even with two or three hens the same applies.
