Hmmm, I think this makes sense. Poor girl, she's partially blind and has been doing so well. I read that if it's caught early, antibiotics can help. I have access to tetracycline and will see if that helps at all. Thanks for your input!
I have a hen that is about 4 years old. The last few days she's been lethargic and two days ago started having watery poops. She hasn't laid an egg in about 5 days. This morning I noticed, what I think is, intestinal lining on the poop board below where she roosted overnight. See the picture...
Hi! I have an urban flock of hens (a mix of bantams and full-sized). Recently a small stray cat has been hanging around the hen’s run and my compost bins catching mice and generally chilling. It doesn’t seem interested in the hens. I’m willing to let it hang around to keep the mouse population...
She is eating and drinking but no, not sneezing, no raspy breathing and no nasal discharge. I have seen mycoplasma symptoms in my flock before and so I did start her on Tylan yesterday, as a precaution.
Help! My hen is able to open her eyes but is spending most of her time with them closed. She’s a new mom, having hatched chicks a week ago. During her brood, I observed her keeping her eyes closed but assumed she was sleepy and preserving energy. Now that she’s off the nest with her chicks, I’m...
My hen has gone lame after a I neglected to notice she had a case of scaly mite. I feel quite terrible that I missed this...however, I have been applying petroleum jelly on both her feet to kill what mites might remain and thorough cleaned the coop. Is there any thing else I can do to help her...
My hen has a toe that is warm to the touch and swollen, and she does not like to stand on that foot. There appears to be a black scab forming on the underside of the swollen toe adjacent to the nail. You'll see from the photos that we've struggled with scaly leg mite infections this past winter...
Thank you for that information as well. Piperazine is the only dewormer I have access to. I'm in Canada and the federal government enacted laws that really restrict access to medication for farm animals without a prescription. I might be able to order Safeguard online from the US - do you know...
She's older, around 5 years and hasn't laid eggs this year. She is puffed up and her tail is drooping and tends to sleep often. The symptoms you mention seem to fit her - I do have Corid on hand. Thank you!
My little hen has been lethargic for about a week now. She does eat a bit and is drinking water (maybe more than normal). She has watery poo for the last few days and I've been giving her water with electrolytes. This morning her poo seems to have a bit of blood in it, picture attached. Any...
Yes, it's completely covered except for one wall that I can lift up when it's not snowing. I think you're right - I think I need more ventilation. This probably hasn't been an issue in past years because there was less loose soil. Thank you for suggesting a simple solution!
I'm in a very cold, snowy region of Canada. I cover my run with vapour barrier to create a nice, snow-free, and protected space for my ladies. I tilled up the dirt floor this fall because it was so packed down and prevented the ladies from dust bathing. Now, four months later, the dust from all...
