Question of the Day - Saturday, May 17th, 2025

Yes! Since I was a girl! Started on the GA/SC Chattooga 🪕 Then the TN Ocoee and the NC Nantahala. I've been down the Chattahoochee (1970's Great River Raft "Race" a boozy annual tradition until too many drunks, too much trash and a couple of drownings ended it.) and down the Toccoa and the Soque...

Topic of the Week - Feeding mealworms, bugs etc.

I throw out about 1/4 cup dried mealworms to my 9 girls in the enclosed chicken yard each morning. They have desecrated the grass so not too many bugs left. I will have to try the concrete block trick to get bugs to congregate beneath it. I also bring home forty live, large crickets from the pet...

Wyandotte swollen abdomen, Ascites or Perontitis? Pics included.

Hi @Wyorp Rock ! You're exactly right. Nothing wrong with Lacey. She's just a 10mo old bird who's ramping up to be a layer. I brought she and Dot the bumblefoot to the vet. I learned a lot, so was worth the price to do so. Thanks for your help!

Wyandotte swollen abdomen, Ascites or Perontitis? Pics included.

I've read threads, consulted my Chicken Health book and consulted and Dr. Google. and I can't pin down Lacey the Silver Laced Wyandotte's abdominal issues. She's eating and drinking. I free feed Tucker Milling's non-GMO 16.5% protein feed, maybe a 1/4 cup mealworms scattered to nine 10 month old...

Is this bumblefoot? Does hemp bedding cause it?

I think she's pretty stressed out, she's mouth breathing. Anything I should do about that?

Is this bumblefoot? Does hemp bedding cause it?

Thought I'd give an update. Let me preface this by saying I've learned that five-toed feather-footed chickens are not good for novice chicken owners. Also, it might be best to wait until a chicken has shook off from their dust bath to pick them up to give them any kind of first aid. Dot has a...
