    What breeds are these?

So long story short I put two duck eggs in with my chicken eggs and one hatched and one didn't. Then I felt terrible for the lone duckling so I I had a friend stop at tractor supply & bring me two ducks. I wasn't there to choose so I don't know what breeds they are. So the gold duck in the back...

    Duck problems

Hello, bad thing happening here. First I have hatched hundreds of eggs. A couple times during all those eggs I had to step in & assist. I've never lost a chick even the couple times I had to step in. Also, I have never hatched a duck. I had a duck start to pip a hole in the egg a couple days...

    Chicken vs Guinea eggs

They are all the same size, the pearls are a year older & just never accepted the new birds when they were hatched. They keep their distance & the older birds are in charge. Hoping someday they combine into 1 big flock

When I said air tight... I mean at night in the rarity it gets in the 30's I batten down the hatches. Where I live it stays HOT in the 90's from spring till fall. So I built the coop with open sides & plenty of ventilation. I also sealed the roof so no drafts then built something like hurricane...

    Chicken vs Guinea eggs

Ironically as I type my peals are under the bird feeder, every day when I pull in from work they run to my truck wanting me to shake the bird feeder lol. I think they like the millet. While the white & lavender birds stay separate from the pearls. They sleep in the coop with the Bantys while the...

    Advice needed please reply

I put them in a large "chicken condo" that was inside the pen. So the main flock of older mature birds would get used to seeing them & not beat them up when I released them. It would not offer protection from illness

Ok having to make a post I hoped to never make in this dreaded health forum. Im a 2nd year chicken owner. 2 years ago I bought 30 chickens from murry mcmurry & paid for every available vaccination for the peeps. Over the last 2 years I have incubated & hatched a couple dozen chicks all...

    Chicken vs Guinea eggs

I know you didnt ask me but I found a "guinea farm" up in Iowa that takes orders all winter for fertile eggs. You can select 1 option that are "mixed" & random colors. They wont ship the eggs till spring & I think 10 of my 12 hatched. Select the "assorted" option & you will get 4 eggs of 3...

3 weeks ago 30 eggs per day (south tennessee) 2 weeks ago down to 6 or 7 eggs per day. This week 2 or 3 eggs per day. Yesterday 1 egg. Even the ducks taking a break. I read an article about winter solstice (which we are in) affects egg laying even in winter layers. According to the article just...

    Refusing to sleep on roosts

The only time my buff orphingtons wont roost is if they are broody. I throw them out of the main coop & put them in with the Bantys & they snap out of it within 3 or 4 days. Once I find a big brown egg in the banty coop I put her back with the big girls. The silkies never roosted. They sleep on...

    Chicken vs Guinea eggs

My nearest neighbor is in his 80's, I give him free eggs. He asks for guinea eggs which get hard to find as the guineas don't really like you taking them & move their nest. My neighbor walks the property looking for guinea eggs
