Chicken Coop
So, it's not the prettiest but it works. And it was almost free, my parents would disagree with that.
It was an old shed on the property when we bought our place. I think the guy used it as a junk shed honestly.
It took me forever! to clean that thing. The...

So here is a little about me.
I am 18 (I feel old!)
I am completely animal crazy. I love just about any kind.
I am excellent at nursing them back to health and fattening them up when they're skinny.
I have 4 dogs of my own and foster stray dogs that come to us whenever...

My hens just started on a new diet, before they weren't getting enough of anything. They were pretty unhealthy. As for sunlight my chickens get plenty of that! I have a nice big run for them, and the way the sun shine there's almost always a lot of sunlight in there for them. I have...
I have Rhode Island Reds, Red Stars, Barred Rocks, Buff Orpingtons, and a few mixes between all of them. My, Red Star and her chick (now over a year old) are the main hens who have floppy combs. A few Rocks, and Orps, the Reds, not so much, though, the older hens seem to be the ones who seem to...
I have a friend who has a light timer, and she says it makes her chickens lay much better.
Does anyone have this, and how do you like it? Does it really improve laying?
If it works where can I get one and how expensive are they? What kind of maintenance does it need, etc?
Thanks!!
I have several chickens who have floppy combs. There doesn't seem to be a real reason. I thought they may have been dehydrated but they're drinking fine, and after putting electrolytes in their water, they did not improve. I switched feeds, to something much better, Layena Laying Pellets...

We already have bats, fish, and purple martins among many other types of wild birds. The propane mosquito eaters are a little too much for my budget. I have thought about the mosquito dunks but didn't know if it would hurt the fish. I think I will invest in some of those! I have also...
What is the best way to control mosquitoes, other than clean water!
I live out in the woods near four or five smallish ponds, not to mention all the unseen puddles in the woods, and a small creek that's typically stagnant 90% of the time.
I've been having a lot of trouble with my chickens...
There are no vets in our area, we do live in the US and have contacted the state before, unlike you the nearest SU will not perform a free necropsy, and as far as I know the nearest avian vet is 150+ miles away.
I am positive my chickens have fowl pox, I have stopped the antibiotic after 3...
I've been having horrible trouble with flies these past few weeks. I've tried all kinds of things! I did apple jelly with a hint of soap, fruit juice with a drop of soap, vinegar and fruit juice with a drop of soap, soapy water, and yeast!
I've been catching more yellow jackets, wasps, and...
How long do I continue using the Sulmet? It only says for 2 days, I did one extra day, I've also ordered the Immuno Boost for pro-biotics and immunity boost. They recommended it for use with antibiotics.
My little chick seems to be doing alright, she keeps scratching the lesions on her eye and...
I don't really have a way to separate the sick hens, there are several of them. All of them are in the same coop and have been exposed to this for several weeks.
Does small pox reoccur? If my hens were introduced to hens who have never been vaccinated nor had fowl pox, could the healthy hens...
I live in Louisiana where mosquitoes breed in the millions! Upon further research I believe it is fowl pox, I'm going to examine their mouths today to make sure it isn't wet pox!
The Sulmet said it was for fowl pox so hopefully it will help keep them from getting wet pox.
Maybe this is what...
I'm not sure that this particularly goes under "Flock Management" but it's the closest I could think of.
For the first year and a half of owning chickens my chickens were fine. I had one die of worms but that was just because I didn't know what was wrong with her and thought she was just...
