Yes. She even refused hand fed cheese (which normally sends her off the rails from excitement.)

Time for euthanasia? [Edit - deceased]

Thank you for those who viewed this post and AidKD for replying. Sadly, Matilda was euthanized at the vet today due to peritonitis (untreatable without expensive and radical surgery) at two years and one month old. She will be missed. Hi everyone, Matilda has been quite unwell for the past...

Chicken sneezing and very prominent wheeze

Ok thank you, I will hold off for the moment. She seems to have excess saliva production on her beak (appearing distinctly separate to eyes and nose) which I guess would support the idea of aspiration. If she deteriorates socially and stops shoving her face full of food I think I will then...

Chicken sneezing and very prominent wheeze

Hi everyone My ~2yo Australorp has had periodic sneezing and a wheeze for the last two days. She is otherwise fine, eats and drinks well and still plays in the dirt. Based on my research it seems to most likely be a bacterial infection of the lungs. The only antibiotic I have access to without...

Very dirty hens (and cleanser selection)

Thank you all for your suggestions and I will take a look at the article :) Thanks for the reassurance, I won't bother at the moment with all the rain. Maybe when it gets a bit nicer!

Very dirty hens (and cleanser selection)

Hi everyone It has been very humid, rainy and muddy for the past 6 months. Its been hard to keep dust bathing areas dry so they just end up bathing in dirt that is dry but seems to be a bit more sticky. They are mostly clean, however, this morning, one of the eggs was broken in the nesting box...

Strange defecation after therapeutic Epsom salt bath

Thank you. I will deworm her today by mouth directly. I might also do all the others. Vet care is an option, the earliest appt is in 4 days, so if it doesn't resolve by then I will bring her in (and there are many emergency specialist hospitals, so if anything goes bad really quickly I can take...

Strange defecation after therapeutic Epsom salt bath

Hi there, I'm in NSW Australia. There is a La Nina weather event if that at all helps (hot, humid, wet.) I'll check her crop tomorrow morning and it seems like she hasn't laid today. I've got a photo I forgot to include, I took it after we went up to bath her! I'm not sure if its normal. Is...

Strange defecation after therapeutic Epsom salt bath

That would be great. I tried worming them once with levamisole, but they never drank the water solution. I withheld for the entire time, and the next day they didn't drink a single ml of water... I think I'll try and syringe it another way when she seems a bit more into it.

Strange defecation after therapeutic Epsom salt bath

Okay, thank you! I'll just continue monitoring her, guess she will be a bit more active tomorrow. Thanks for your help!

Strange defecation after therapeutic Epsom salt bath

Hi there, One of my hens, who is <1 year old has been acting quite lethargic and has been looking a bit messy in the vent area. Her feathers seemed out of place around that area. Nothing looked or felt unusual, there was nothing that felt really hard. I put her in a nice warm Epsom salt bath...

    Egg laid in stages

Hi there, My hen is a bit younger than 1year old and is a black Austrolorp. It seems she has laid the 'egg' in three stages. This morning, she laid the white. Later, she laid the soft eggshell. Then, minutes after, she laid the yellow yolk. Promptly devouring it (repulsive.) I am just...
