I ended up with French Toulouse. I wanted a larger breed the was know for the calmness and being quieter than some. I saw their pictures and read the whole Toulouse breed section. They are very sweet and love their family. Their loudest time is when they are saying hello. Even if you are gone 1...
My geese eat a large variety of greens, grass, clover, plantain(sp), dandelions, select flowers, and to my dismay 7 year old poplar tree that use to look beautiful with leaves now dying. They will weed around raspberries and strawberries without touching the yummy fruit, but sadly we have to...
It is a wonderful and informative book. Geese are suppose to be very winter hardy. They’re wearing down jackets (but I still worry about wintertime temps).
My geese which are still babies (13 weeks) have a 8x12 house with a 30x25 foot run. They are located within my yard and watched by my dog...
He looked at me like I was molesting him and didn’t think it was appropriate for a gander to be “touched”. Shimmer was like you can pet me anywhere. She’s my easiest to handle and still sleeps on my lap. And will snuggle vs eat their treats if given a choice.
All four of mine have lobes, but Levi’s seems to have more space in between his vs the girls. The girls also have longer lobes or more developed ones. When you feel the it feels just like an extra fold of skin not like a fat brisket on a steer. Their only 13 weeks so maybe during laying season...
Most of the time shimmer will get 6-12 inches off the ground when running down the incline in the back yard. But she is getting better. This am she got about 3-4 feet off the ground and landed gracefully.
The babies look horrible right now due to molting. So no pictures anytime soon.
They have been practicing flying. Basically running on their toes when flapping. But they are so proud of themselves. Shimmer did get a good headwind and freaked herself out by actually flying. She got 5-6 feet in...
Yes he needs a buddy. It will give him someone else to annoy who will probably correct him if needed.
You asked how to get him to like other people. Socialization will help him get along with others. What is his favorite treat? Mine love corn. If someone is coming over, I give them a little...
Thank you for getting him. Maybe the eye sight is reaction to sun light exposure and lack of adequate diet. But time will tell. Try drenching his food and chopping up the greens just like a gosling. He has to learn how to forage like a gosling.
I put mine out at 5 weeks. They did great. In Idaho at that time, the night temperatures were 34-40 and they did fine. I of course worried but the four of them were active and ready to be let out every morning. They will be turning 11 weeks on Monday. Enjoy your goslings.
I'm so sorry but proud of you. That must have been scary. I have 1/2 inch HC covering the windows I would hate to see them catch their beaks in it. It's probably a rare occurrence but it happens. He will figure out eating again.
There is powder you can buy that will stop bleeding like for...
Oh no. I didn’t see that thread. How did he get cut up on HC? I have some windows at their height for them to look out covered with HC. Yikes. I hate it when animals get injured and can’t imagine bringing the 4 of them back inside. But so glad he is healing and doing better. Keep us up dated. :hugs
