Born in NYC, and lived in and around the big apple until I was 30. As a kid, I spent every summer hiking and camping the NH's White Mountain and presidential range. Had a career opportunity in NH and jumped to leave the city and move close to my personal nirvana. Hiker, nature lover, former athlete and corp exec - I got sick, leading to over 30 surgeries, and cancer (now in remission)- forcing me to end my career.
I'm now living the life I always wanted - living in the mountains and growing / canning most of our veggies. Cancer made me really pay attention to my diet, and started me with locally raised chickens, eggs, beef and pork. Decided that I'd start me own little food farm instead of paying a fortune for the local food. Started with a huge raised bed garden (I can't bend to weed etc on a normal garden), then honeybees, and now, chickens...In the future - I'll raise whatever my wife will let me manage. As I now have both knees and both hips replaced and mobility challenged, she sometimes has to help me with the "farming" chores - so for those old enough to remember green acres - I'm the city guy trying to learn to farm, and my wife would prefer to never touch a farm instrument or farm animals... But she loves living in the Mtns as much as I do.
