I have not tried candling them but did mark the ones she's hatching and have removed new eggs when she's out of the nest if another hen lays in it (which they seems to love lol). Thank you again! I will report back if any hatch. :)
Thank you so much. This is really helpful. So sad about your Orpington. That would be hard for me to watch. I just got 3 Orpingtons and some Cochin chicks (I like sweet broodies but I might regret that lol).
Thankfully, mine is not aggressive at all when I pull her off the nest. She's all...
I had to do that last year and it worked well. Same hen went broody again so we thought we'd let her give it a try which is why I have some questions about whether she needs to be forced off the nest to exercise and rest. We have been doing that the last two weeks. She's out for about 15 minutes...

Thanks for your reply. I really appreciate it. Seems like it might be too much to get turkeys right now. If/when we do, I'll look at less flighty breeds and keep them separated at least in the brooder and coop.
Today is day 24 and one hatched. I understand it can take up to 28 days so I'll give it a little more time. I was about to put new eggs in last night when I heard the chirping from one egg (wait I'm alive! :). I hope a few more hatch over night but there is 0 activity in there from what I can...
We are thinking of turkeys now instead of guinea fowl. Is there a breed that tends to be the friendliest? Royal Palm? Should I get a male and a female or just two females if I don't want to breed them?
Would they need their own house or could I raise them with chicks and house together? Are...
Hi there! We are thinking of getting guinea fowl because the mosquitos are so bad out here. Does anyone here raise them with other chicks? I have some in the incubator now so I was going to order some guinea chicks but do they need their own coop? I read they bully chickens and can be quite...
