So…still having the same problem with her…only now it is both legs. None of the areas are really bad, but they are like bad scrapes that bleed. And she has re-wounded (word?) the very first spot that was wounded on her foot and it has swelled a bit. Could she be bored? Would a neck collar work...
So just to confirm…you are saying you believe it is safe to use the creams with the pain reliever? Is there a particular ingredient for pain that should be avoided or that is preferred?
Ok…great. I did blukote too, but it made no difference to her…UGH. But maybe the aluminum bandage will help that. Although a saddle won’t work for this situation, I did wonder about some type of sock or something elastic like (not real tight) over the bandage. Not sure if that would help.
Hmm….I just watched a video about it because I hadn’t heard of it. I thought It may be a good idea…but I think I saw that it dried silver-ish…kind of shiny. May be that she would peck at that even more so…and perhaps the other hens too. Not sure about using it. Does it dry with a shine to it?
Yes…I am sure it must be bothering her. And if the wounds aren’t…being bandaged sure is. Probably both situations. I don’t have neosporin…but can get it. I do have antibiotic creams with pain relief too. I do wonder if there is something that I can put on the bandage to discourage the pecking….
I have a 2 year old black Spanish hen that injured the top of her foot about a week and a half ago. I believe she got her foot caught under some of the chicken wire fencing in her pen…which is just so unlikely, but we have made a couple changes to it anyway. I cleaned and treated her foot area...
I know this is a really late question…years late…but just wondering if the frontline drops on your sick little chicken ended up killing the lice? And did she do ok? Thanks for the update.
Hi! Looking for help with these 2 little ones. About 6 weeks old now. They look like boys to me (?) They are 2 we hatched from a neighbors eggs. Don’t know what breed they are (neighbor has LOTS of chickens/roosters)…any ideas? And, we read about checking wings when they are a day old..and did...
Hi there! Just need some help to see if I will have roosters or hens when they grow up. The black and grey chicks are about 6 weeks old. The brown one (2 last photos) is about 5 weeks old. I am thinking they will be hens…but not too sure. They are mixed breeds. Hoping more experienced eyes can...
Ok. Sounds right. He has dried out a bit…kind of dragging one leg. Can’t tell about the other leg or if the swelling is any better or not. Is the sling the right thing for him - even with swelling? Thanks.
Chick hatched with 2 swollen legs and can’t seem to stand. He hatched more than a day late and needed a little assistance…he was mostly hatched but was turned sideways somehow and one leg slipped out of the shell…so I gently helped by splitting the shell a bit more for him. Good thing too…he...
