I have a question: I have 3 silkies: a black rooster, a paint hen, and a porcelain hen. I hatched a few of their eggs for fun and got 2 black chicks and then this one. I can't tell if it's blue or lavender. I'm thinking lavender since porcelain carries the lavender gene, correct? I'm not sure...
Hi everyone!
I recently ordered 9 chicks from My Pet Chicken and paid extra to have them sexed. They arrived Wednesday morning all lively and alert. One spent more time under the EcoGlow Brooder than the others but I just figured she was recovering from the trip in the mail. Yesterday I heard...
I did call with my order number and the guy I talked to was very friendly and helpful. I was refunded the full price of the incorrectly sexed chick. 1 wrong out of 6 isn't bad and I would definitely order sexed silkies from MPC again :)
In case this helps anyone else, I ordered 6 sexed female silkie chicks from My Pet Chicken this year. Only one turned out to be a rooster. I also bought 8 straight run white silkies from TSC and 6 turned out to be roos! While My Pet Chicken doesn't have 100% accuracy all the time with sexing...

I think your black ones hat actually looks poofy like a hen
I think he also looks like a roo too based on his swept back hat and noticeable wattle. However, I do have a silkie hen that has a swept back hat but she is definitely a girl (lays eggs and goes broody) so it's hard to say 100% certain
I have a couple of questions about deworming: for how long does the dewormer act in their system? (Just for the day you give it to them or a couple dayside longer?) and how long do you typically see the worms in their stool as the dewormer is working? Should they be gone from stools in a few days?
Just wanted to give everyone an update: I was only able to give z gold to some of my chickens because of the texture and smell and it was very difficult to give it to some of them. I found vetafarms wormout tablets and those worked so much better for me! Because there wasn't the sticky texture...
Ok thanks. The vet gave her cefa drops so I'm a little confused. I'm not sure if he meant to say capillarium or if capillarium is also a type of bacteria? I gave her oxytetracycline initially which didn't work so he prescribed cefa drops and that did seem to help. However, I didn't have enough...
I took my silkie to the vet because she has been sneezing and sounded congested. The vet said that she has capillarium (same thing as capillaria?) and gave her some medicine. Because I have so many other chickens (30), the vet did not give me medicine for all of them. My silkie was better for...
My blue silkie has tapeworm segments in her stool. I bought some z gold to treat her with and my other 32 chickens. A few of my chickens ate bread with the z gold in it but most of them refused. Is there an easy way to give z gold them? What have you all done when you administer z gold? Thanks...
