As the title - what color would a sapphire olive egger lay? Dark green or pastel? Trying to figure out what other breed and egg color to go for… thank you so much!
Thank you so much for reading and taking the time to reply!!!!!
I thought the sapphire olive egger might be a bit more pastel/lighter compare to an 'olive' egger. Thanks!
I think I got so wrapped up in the 'colour' searching that I completely forgot about the standard browns too! Thanks so...
Hello! I have a bit of an obsession...
Limited coop room and want to optimize egg colours for the amount of hens I can have. I can add a couple more chicks, any suggestions which breeds?
The two last ones I don't yet know if they are hens or roos...
Currently have chicks:
- sapphire olive...
I've been so frustrated, two of the feed stores near me, the person in front of me bought *all* of the shipment of chicks. This happened not once, but twice in the last week! I only have room for a max of 6 chickens too so its not like I need a lot!... It also gets tough for me due to work, and...
i had a broody over the summer, did not separate mama and eggs when they were ready to hatch… the other chickens killed all the chicks very quickly after they hatched :( I had read advice on here that the mama would protect the babies, but that didn’t work for me. Not to say that doesn’t happen...
Please please PLEASE do the quarantine!!!! I almost didn’t, and the new chicken was terribly ill and likely would have wiped out my whole flock. I thought the quarantine sounded ridiculous but it’s not! Please do it and monitor the new chickens closely. When I have introduced new chickens...
We copied the style of ‘Carolina coops’. I don’t have the greatest photos but here’s what I can find to show. The door accessing the coop side is now split down the middle as two doors (the photo shows before when we tried to make it one large swing door). But hopefully this gives you an idea...
I absolutely agree in supporting small places. However, small doesn’t always mean the animals are kept in better conditions. And larger hatcheries doesn’t mean that they are below average either.
Just to share my experience - 6 chicks from different hatcheries all were accurately sexed, very...
I have five hens and a roo, almost two years old. Very recently they have gone nuts for eating their eggs, have stopped laying in the egg boxes, and instead laying in the coop floor under where they sleep. Most days by the time i get home and let them out of the run I find some remnants of an...
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply and sharing the other post! I see it might be related to excess calcium in the layer feed and free shell options... but you helped alleviate my anxiety that one of them was sick - hah! Thank you again!
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and alleviating my fears! Apologies I suck at keeping up with messages and the delay. After reading I see it might be related to excess calcium in their feed + free range eggshells. Thank you again, I am grateful for your time and help!
This morning found a cluster of white dots on the inside of an eggshell. The actual egg itself looks fine. Any idea what this is? Almost ‘caviar’ looking.
Fairly fresh eggs, within the last 2 weeks for sure. Refrigerated. Unwashed. I have a rooster so fertile eggs. I did have a hen who was...
Thanks so much for taking the time to read and reply!
AHH, I don't know, I guess this is the problem with online boards instead of going to a vet... someone else had told me injecting was more effective than oral! :(
