Healthy as could be,He was taking the hens around the yard. He was 3 1/2. We think he had a heart attack. One of the hens was squawking and as he ran towards the fence he started flipping back and forth and then just died. Craziest thing!!! He was an awesome rooster!
Young George
We took on a young Rooster this year. I have a tenured rooster George which is 3 years old. He is so good with the Hens and us. I cannot stand the young Rooster!! It's like having a teenager. Before we got rid of the other Roosters and kept him he was on the bottom of the pecking order and...
Last year we had a 50% survival rate. This year we had a broody hen with two she hatched out take on a buff orpington, 1 turkey and 4 cornish cross babies on as her own. They free range during the day and all have survived! By this time last year we had already lost two. Next year we will do the...
Does play fighting determine if they are a rooster or hen? or it's just normal like with any other animals? We have two that we have no idea what they will be since our hen hatched them.
Thanks for the silly question of the day :)
The 3 that hatched had leg problems as, they could never stand. :( They mustve gotten to cold but not cold enough to die in the egg. Very sad on the whole deal :(.
We are onto 2 hatched one coming out of the shell and another with a hole. Candling revealed the two dead eggs. I think we will have at least 10 babies. ... Oh dear so much easier when mom keeps them warm and fed.
Thanks for the reply, they are in different stages. Most of them are dark with just the air sack showing. I seen the little egg chick moving. I wish I could figure out what chick lets died. They are to far along. I think some were days to hatching :(. She was such a good mom to her babies...
She was laying on 18 eggs. They were cold. We put them in the incubator anyway. It's day 4 now. The incubator stinks, not sure if that's normal as we have never incubated before. We are sure there are probably some dead. I saw one moving this morning so I'm hopeful! How do I know if the others...
^ babies so far, as for what kind... Good Question.. lol
Looks like we have a Rhode Island red, a white one, and some ones that look like daddy.
Our Rooster and his hens in the field foraging. Most likely the pheasant looking one the buff orpington are not being bred. I have never see him...
We now have 6 babies, CRAZY!!! They just keep coming.. and more eggs to hatch, until they get bored with sitting on them I would think
I'll try to get pictures tomorrow and post them :)
