Our local nat'l guard has been more active lately too. Our Silkies listen to the roaring helicopters flying sometimes together overhead & are now accustomed to the familiar rumbling noise.
Poor Tilly panting. I feel so sorry for hens laying so frequently... especially in their pullet year. A few years back we started leaving the nestbox lid open a little for more ventilation by using a wood block. If it's a real heatwave day we'll prop open the lid more. Having a patio roof over...
The heart is for your joyous new addition ❣️
Your property sounds like my first home in 1969. The backyard was an empty field when we moved in but then the county made it into a park w/ children's equipt & it was always noisy then. The cow pasture hills behind later all got developed into...

The possibility of a wide range of comb sizes/shapes on Leghorn hybrids (like your Azure) is exactly why I was wondering how the hybrid Zombie...
There are straight combs on hens that may bend a little as ruralmouse says; however, White Leghorn hens have unusually oversized combs that always flop over one eye. That's why I wondered which comb a Zombie hen will sport... the oversized floppy Leghorn comb covering one side of the face or the...
Our Silkie Mini did the Whirling Dervish to chase Japanese Beetles if they buzzed low but none of our standard or Silkie hens ever actually ate them?! We rarely see Japanese beetles since I chopped down the fig tree that attracted ants, rats, & beetle swarms!
Mini was a pistol chasing beetles...
