Hi -
I can’t speak for anyone’s experience but my own, but here are my two cents:
1: Good question! 😆 But they will start! I’d expect around 4-6 months. Of course, the eggs will be really small at first, then quickly getting larger.
2: mine are two years and are still laying almost every day.

Thanks for posting this reply! I've often found chicken eggs with the halo, also thinking this might mean fertilization, except this sometimes happens with store-bought eggs where the hens never meet roosters. Good to finally understand!
We’ve had this same issue for a couple years now, always early in the SE Texas “spring” (read: January). We’ve ordered our first hive, but I don’t think they’re due to arrive for several weeks. Hoping we’ll have plenty of wildflowers in bloom along with our flower & vegetable gardens.
Ours comes by around once every week or two. Caught a young (3 ft) one with an egg in his mouth. Got a bit awkward as my dh flung him by the tail. The egg flew a little further, but it didn’t break. Feeding the hens our old egg shells works! Snake was pissed! 😆😆
