    Sally's GF3 thread

I'm making rhubarb jam. This is the third time I've made this recipe, and I've tweaked it each time, reducing the sugar. Yes, I know sugar helps with the gelling, but this recipe says to "cook down to jam-like consistency," so it still gets plenty jammy. I'm making a bigger batch this time, as...

    Your 2024 Garden

I don't know how I got the idea you were in Michigan! I see "south-eastern M..." and for some reason, I thought Michigan. 🤦‍♀️ What zone are you in? We've been 5b for a long time, but just got bumped up to 6a. And I'm so old I remember before they split the zones into a and b. When I was a...

    Any Home Bakers Here?

Jared, good for you! Nothing like having a store of food on hand for whenever you might need it. Having a supply chain is one thing; being your own supply chain is much better!

What did you do in the garden today?

Wow, those look good! I would love to dehydrate some onion/garlic, but oh, the SMELL!!! I assume you didn't smell onion when you FD'd it, right? How would you FD potatoes? Would you need to blanch the at all first? Do you need to blanch veg before FD?

Name 3 Things You Did Or Will Do Today - 2024

I usually do too. I had to break off cooking it to go do my errands, which included a chiropractor appointment. Hubby likes the jam, so I'm making more!

Things you wish you could say

PB are my initials (after the Sally part), but I love-love-love peanut butter, so it's fitting! I'm a peanut butter snob, though. I haven't eaten store bought in years, because home made is much better.

Things you wish you could say

It was tasty, but the custard broke and was watery. I'm going to make it again and do it differently. It's not something I'd serve to anyone other than hubby and me. I guess it's hard to bake a custard and have it work well...? Don't know that much about them. That's what I was told.

Things you wish you could say

I did not eat as much of the rhubarb custard as I did. (WAAAY too much sugar. Tasty, though...)

What did you do in the garden today?

Today I started digging out some grass in one corner of the garden. I kept finding Japanese Beetle grubs, so I put those in a bucket for the chickens. I must have collected 50-60 grubs. Free chickie snack today. Yeah, that means I have a lot of grubs still out there, because I didn't dig up...

I ate WAAAAAY too much sugar today. So of course I'm happy! Man, I can't eat this much sugar anymore. Sorry, pancreas. I won't do this tomorrow, I promise.

Question of the Day - Monday, May 27th, 2024

I was crossing the street and a car coasted up to the light. Their bumper tapped my thigh. So I can say that I have been hit by a car.
