They are so cute! Hopefully I'll have some more pictures soon now that the birds have been evicted to the outside brooder but here are a few of my favorites.

Could be you have all girls but it's too soon to tell, I'd keep an eye on them and watch for any that are starting to darken but I'm not familiar with GFF lines or how they mature so their tells might be different then the line I have.
Do you have pictures of the combs? I have some homebred Watermaal that are about 3 weeks and I think I'm starting to get an idea on gender since the boys combs turn pink/red much earlier then the girls but they aren't Quail or GFF so I'm not sure if that'll ring true for you.
I am indeed! White and black so nothing as colorful as your BBS pens. I don't even have pens built yet but with the cold snap we've had up here it'll be a while before I separate them out anyway. Plus the pullet I'm most looking forward to breeding is still not laying since she's broody which...
I'm going to cover the area with aviary netting or garden bird netting. We have quite a few owls nearby as well as hawks and nesting eagles so it's been a big consideration.
I recently got the Sebright and d'Anvers book from the same series and found it really helpful, though admittedly as someone with a related breed not one of the ones focused on in the book. I think it could be useful for people who are more visual learners but of course doesn't replace the standard.
I'll for sure be considering that when it gets closer to time, we get all kinds of wildlife though from raccoons to fisher cats and even bears from time to time so it's not a very light predator load to deal with which is a big consideration for me.
I love watching your process! I need to do pictures and finalize my decisions for my breeding pens too. I'm excited to see what your pens produce this year!
Yeah mine don't understand that they're little and I could totally see one of the boys trying to get out to go fight something not understanding that they're under 2 pounds 🤣
I'm hoping to set up a fenced in area for my flock to forage a bit this summer, due to our predator load here in Vermont and my birds being so small I plan to use electric poultry fencing but I was wondering if anyone with small bantams has had problems with average poultry fencing? Most of the...
aw thank you! He's such a handsome little guy and he knows it, he's either posing for the camera or perching on my shoulder trying to yank on my earlobes 😂
