What did you do with your flock today?

Wet day, almost an inch of rain by the time I got home. Dry straw was appreciated. Silas and his gals ⬆️ Zacchaeus and his ladies ⬆️ I gave them a little BOSS and dry cat food as a treat since it was too wet for me to go hunting for wild strawberries!

What did you do with your flock today?

We're expecting temperatures to drop down into the 20s (F) so I redid my winter waterer. Packed with clean straw for insulation ⬆️ I can pop out the ice that forms on the top, no damage to the rubber tub. And then my flock enjoyed some fresh straw to scratch and collard leaves to eat!

What did you do with your flock today?

I harvested 4-5 purple top turnips for Thanksgiving dinner, and after I stripped off most of the green leaves I gave the stalks and some leaves to the flock. They made happy noises.

What did you do with your flock today?

Thank you, they are handsome, and I let them know. I wanted eggs, but more than eggs I wanted my chickens to have good lives without being egg machines. They deserve some downtime. The pullets are getting chatty, both Esther and Johanna especially. This afternoon Esther was perched next to the...

What did you do with your flock today?

They're going over and pecking it. Funny thing, the lower ranking Dominique hens are more interested in the cabbage than the Sussex!

What did you do with your flock today?

Thank you! They're Speckled Sussex, bantams. I wanted a heritage breed that was friendly, and found a local source for day old chicks. I'm planning on breeding the best to the best and seeing how close I can get to Standard.

What did you do with your flock today?

I checked leg bands. First I sprinkled at my feet some shredded cheese bits (from the bottom of a bag), and picked up each chicken as they crowded around. Joanna, Priscilla, and Silas needed a looser band. Esther's was okay. Martha's band was missing, and Hannah's was very faded, so they each...

What did you do with your flock today?

Oh, YES! That describes Zack's crow. I leave for work while it's still dark, and this morning the porch light set him to gargling... :gig

What did you do with your flock today?

I think it would be too tall for my bantams, but I like the idea. Zacchaeus being a Good Boy! He did get some corn but let the hens AND pullets eat first.

What did you do with your flock today?

The Sussex Only roost: Zack roosting with the Dominique hens: I think he's doing this because they're no longer spurning his advances, they're HIS hens.

What did you do with your flock today?

I did that, too! I snapped the ears into thirds and tossed them away from each other so the pullets would have a chance to eat.

What did you do with your flock today?

Salmon and sardines are high in Omega 3 fatty oils, maybe your flock is aware of nutritional needs?

What did you do with your flock today?

The area by the coop door has been decluttered, and a new containment fence added. Due to predators my flock do not free-range, but occasionally a hen or two try to escape when I open the coop door. The fencing is meant as a discouragement, not proof against cats/dogs/etc.

What did you do with your flock today?

Finally! He's also tidbitting the pullets, so I am very pleased, and thankful. His father was a jerk.

What did you do with your flock today?

I cleaned the main waterer, it was getting green inside. I scraped the A-frame roost, threw some straw in the run, and shared a corn cob. Happy birds!

What did you do with your flock today?

We removed the wheelbarrow from the back of the hoop coop, shifted the A-frame roost closer to the main roost, and tidied up some.
