    Helpful hints for building coops

For some reason, a basement doesn't bother me. Maybe because the first house I lived in had a basement, and that was the kids' play area. I've been in basements my whole life, in just about every place I lived. But a cave... uh... no, I couldn't do it. I don't know what the difference is.

Put the functionality on the inside where it helps you tend the chickens. Put the cute on the outside where you can see it. I guarantee, the chickens won't notice it anyway.

Yesterday was a gift from Mother Nature. Sunny more than expected, warmer than expected, and more productive outside than expected. Rain, possibly some snow, in the forecast. Then it gets nicer. I should do all the "indoor projects" today/tomorrow/Thursday. I think I'll start with a nap.

Snow, yeah, we can shovel it. Freezing rain... nope. WAAAAY worse than snow. Can't drive on it, and it knocks the power out. For days, sometimes.

Oh, your question is certainly NOT stupid. It shows that you're thinking about how to make a good coop. Nobody was born knowing this stuff, and we all had to learn and ask questions. So ask any questions you need to. :)

Welcome, @Mantascon! What is your subfloor made of? Ideally, you would cover it with something waterproof. A lot of people use sheet vinyl flooring; sometimes you can get a leftover piece very cheaply. Some people have used a product called Blackjack 57, which is a coating that seals the...

We got a Reverse Osmosis filter several years ago. It is the best tasting water, IMO. We don't buy bottled water at all.

Glad you didn't have any flooding at your house. We're on a river too, but it's about 80-90 feet below us. We had a "100 year flood" a few years ago, but had no issues here. A lot of people were not as lucky.
