Hi all
There was a thread about adding on the fibro genes using silkies? I can't seem to find it. Can someone direct me to it?
Has anyone tried a silkie x rir cross to get great fibro layers? I think I can remember reading somewhere that the silkies have lavender leghorn genetics in them
Hi JaeG
Yes it's not so dusty. As in it can't be noticed. I've been observing them and can't see any fights going on. They seem less active and egg production has dropped. The ones I doubt
That are having issues don't seem to be laying either. I've added some probiotocs in their drinking...
Maybe its dusty a bit. There isn't mold, feed is ad lib too. Its just the ones from the older set. Some have lost a few feathers as well. I was watching the one I isolated, looked like her vision is a bit impaired. She was pecking away unable to see the food in front of her
Hi everyone
I have 2 batches of quail together on deep litter. They were on wire before. One set is about 3 months older than the other. I have noticed in the last few days that the older set of quail were less active. So I picked up one girl and her eyes seems starry. Not clear. More white...
Hi all
So I have my quail on deep litter now. The eggs are getting dirty and hard to clean. I sell some in a few stores and I don't think I'll go too far with dirty eggs
Is there a cheap solution to wash eggs? Something I can make at home and quite inexpensive will be great
I have heard it...
What is the % protein of boiled egg? I do get cracked eggs sometimes. Could give it to them. Is it true that if fed fish the egg taste turns 'fishy'? :) well maybe breed some guppies in a tank and feed them just once a week
@2crows - I'm raising coturnix. I give them kale sometimes finely shred. Need to try sprouting soon. Fed them some pumpkin and they liked playing ball with it. I had a few on dirt earth inside a cage. Smell was zero but after 2 weeks I found that same of them had formed dirt balls on their toes...
Actually when my birds were on 16% layer they laid 95% daily. They were healthy and beautiful too. Then I started to increase protein and boom laying is less than 60%
Thanks 2crows, 10sq feet sounds great. I'm thinking a dirt floor will be good? They will scratch etc and keep it turned too I guess.
You chop up greens or put it whole for them to pick on?
Hi Sill
I tried fermenting and things went berserk. Quails got so hungry the only thing they wanted to do was eat eat eat. Dying for food ALL time. Soon egg production also dropped. Maybe I did something wrong.
Whats your laying percentage?
Hi all
I can only find 20% max protein feed here, thats what the whole country has. I am currently mixing 30% American soya with the advice of some BYC members. I have been feeding this 28.25% approx feed to many batches of quail but when slaughter day came i was surprised to find that they...
Thanks again. I've seen you post on probiotics before. Can you tell me what your setup is? How many sq per bird you use? How many birds? Do you feed ad lib? Any added vitamins etc? Greens?
