Hi everyone,
I haven't been on BC in ages. I bought a fully grown hen today from a local feed store. The guys there have no idea what breed it is. I am hoping some of you can help.
I don't know the egg color as she hasn't laid. She is big but is underweight so I don't expect eggs for...
Thank you Wappoke. My broody hen now has her chicks for about a week. She turns out to be an aggressive and protective mother. When the cats come near, she charges at them and chases them away.
I know the owner of the Yahoo group named SOCALPOULTRY raises ducks and sells ducklings. He might be able to give you some info. Join that group and you can communicate with him. I think his name is Kevin. Good luck.
Hi everyone,
I have a blue splash marans that is now broody. I would like to know if her type makes a good mother. I search this thread to see if anyone talked about it, but found none. Thanks for your help.
Hooray! I always want to know if my guesses hit the mark. Is that the picture of #2? As for the olive green egg, you know how they say, if there is no picture, it didn't happen.

You definitely gave away a boy. 3 row comb + dark red on wings = boy. As for 3 row comb females, I only recall one or two that I saw in this whole lengthy thread. Also, the chicken that abserbean posted right above your post has 3 rows, and I believe it is a girl, not 100% sure though. It...
This one is a hard one. It has the body of a hen but the rooster's comb. Usually, most cockerels by 8 weeks would have some dark patches on their wings already. This one seems to have even pattern without dark patches. So, I am going to vote hen. Please update once you know for sure. I am...
Appreciate you posting picture of your fully grown RIR. I like to know the ending especially happy ending. Mine is only 5 weeks and I am still on the fence regarding its sex.
Help please! This is my first and only barred rock chick. It's 8 weeks old today. The legs seem thick and color not as dark as most girls I've seen in this forum, so I am not sure. This chick is raised by a broody hen and is slow growing compared to chicks I raised in the brooder. So, I am not...
