I absolutely hate hawks! They fly around my house a lot and scare my hens. Some people put up scarecrows, but I'm not sure if that actually helps. If hawks keep invading your yard, I would buy a large run (With a top, of course!) for your chickens to go in during the day while you're at...
I just spent a month up in michigan and I left my chickens at home. We just made it home today! I want to surprise them with a good treat. Do you guys have any good treat ideas for me?
I don't know very much about training, but if you handle your chicks (cup them in your hands and gently pet them) for about 15-30 minutes everyday, they will enjoy you when they get older. If you ignore them, they'll get scared when you approach them. Everytime I walk outside, Ivy and Emily come...
Hello! I posted a forum a while ago about Ash's bad behavior, and I'm proud to say that she's better. She'll let me handle her now. Anyway, I was out on a trip for the weekend and I come home and she's acting really broody. I collected all the eggs and she still stays put in the nest. When I get...
The chick is so cute! I hate seeing such cute and tiny animals in pain.
Like the others said, give it some vitamins or sugar water. You can buy some at a farming supply store or research which foods you can give to chicks that have good vitamins.
The hen will be judged on feather quantity, health, enviroment, etc.
If theres a tie then I will judge on which one I think is prettier.
Hope this helps!
Hen Show!
Put down your Hen's name, date of birth (or age if you don't know), breed, and a short little story about how you found them, their coopmates, and why you entered them in the contest.
IT MUST BE A HEN! (I think roosters have an advantage because they are so handsome...)
Contest ends...
Sorry for the bad english. I apparently don't know how to human today.
So tomorrow I plan to make my chickens some egg-free pancakes and let them free-range all by themselves. That means I won't be out there. The problem is that there's a lot of big birds flying around my neighborhood and I...
Go to the forum page, click the forum that you want to post on, and at the top there should be a button "create new thread" or something like that. Click it and it will get you started.
Putting them under more stress will not help at all! It will most likely decrease egg production and start fights between the hens. Tell your manager that.
Now, for the egg laying. They may not be getting enough calcium. Put blended egg shells (warning, they stink really bad!) or buy some...
I've had a hawk attack my chicken before. But it died... I don't know any tips to help it heal.
If the bird likes being handled, give it lots of attention. If not, leave it be. This will calm it down and make it feel like it's safe. Give it a good amount of food and water, and maybe some treats...
