I use a red bulb, because i have had chicks that were under a clear bulb that started pecking eachother to the point of drawing blood. The only thing I don't like about it is, it makes the pictures fuzzy when i go to take pictures of them! Haha
I would try to make a splint of some sort and put it on the leg. Popsicle sticks work great, i use electrical tape to keep it on because it stays on, and doesn't hurt them when you take it off. Was the chick born that way? if so, sometimes you can fix it if it is early enough.
I had a chick once...
For any chicks that seem to be sleeping alot or sick, I would recommend separating those, so if it's a contagious thing, it doesn't spread. Other than that, I'm not really shur. Good luck!
Sounds like a blast!! I would love to have one or two of my hens have chicks of their own. Two go broody a couple of weeks ago, and the one girl stole the others' chicks! It was mean, hah. But unfortunetly one of the chicks died, and so I took the other live one right away in fear that they got...
I have been looking all over the internet and can't figure out what breed he is! I'm stumped
(He's in a bit of a molt, and he blinked in this pic)
He has got to be a mixed at least, because he's got ONE white feather on his wing, haha
My 4-yr old hen went through a really bad molt once, it lasted almost a full year. her entire neck had no feathers, along with her back! She was quite a sight.
I got 8 chicks (about 3-7 days old) from an animal swap last saturday. brought them home, one died within hours. i thought it could have been from the move where it was, perhaps too much stress. then, the next day a chick died. the next day, 2 more. And now, we have only 2 left!
They are on...
mine does to, makes it sound like somethings wrong, lol. my roo also climbs in the nesting box and makes loud clucks, to attract the hens, its really weird! lol.
I've had the same problem before, i lost one of my chicks because the others sat on her. poor things. the only suggestion i can think of, is possibley maybe seperating them into smaller groups?
I got an americauna week old chick 4 days ago with a group of 6 other chicks. one died the same day we brought it home from unknown causes. this one has been fine until today. i noticed it sleeping, alot. (but sleeping standing, so at first she looks fine) she is really slow. when i move her...
