Love this thread! I started riding horses when I was 4. My first horse was a retired albino barrel racing pony named Babe. He was a little brat. He would get fixated on trees and just go in circles until someone stepped in and stopped him. I showed Saddlebreds from age 6 to 15 then again...
I'm saying 6, 8 and 10 are cockerels. The others I'm not sure, but believe me with Campines you will know for sure at 4 weeks. They crow early and often. At least the 2 I have did.
I have only started in January, but here goes my crew:
4 Barred Rocks
4 Golden Campines
1 Lavender Orpington
1 White Rock
1 Buff Rock
1 Black Astralorp
My Lavender Orpington roo is Geno.
My 4 Barred Rock hens are Crouse, Ghetto Booty, Big B, and Margarita.
My 2 Golden Campine hens are Diane and Dar.
My buff rock is T-Swizzle.
My black astalorp is Beyonce.
My white rock is Lulu.
I have two Golden Campine Roos that I will give to anyone that is interested. They are 15 weeks old and the loudest little buggers you have ever seen. They started crowing early and often. They don't have a mean bone in their body, but they are skittish. Both are at the bottom of the pecking...
Thank you. He has such a personality too. He loves his treats. He comes running, looks at my hands then kinda follows me around waiting. I'm hoping he stays the way he is and doesn't get aggressive. He's definitely one of my favorites.
Raised Baptist, but not to a real church going family. I believe in a higher being (eternal optimist), but not sure to what extent. Definitely am not an organized religion person. I'm not sure what that makes me.
On Monday evening, my son went to check on the chickens around 7:00pm. We were missing 3 of our 12 week old chicks (1 cockerel and 2 pullets). He thought they might be in the woods by the coop so he didn't think much of it. Well at 8:30pm when he went to close up the coop, they were still...
This is probably a stupid question and I can't get near enough to my rooster to pick him up and inspect it. He doesn't do coddling. But he has a feather that appears to be growing out of his foot. It is one feather. Its not hurting him or anything but I wanted to see if this was normal. He...
Mine have free ranged since I got them in March. I love watching them. It is also a bright spot of my morning when they are standing by my car to greet me when I go to work. They haven't touched my flower beds yet but I'm sure that is coming. They absolutely love the woods by the coop. It...
It is 20%. The nesting boxes are on the ground and have fake eggs in them. Does being on the ground have anything to do with why they don't lay in there?
Don't mean to hijack, but similar question. I have 4 barred rocks and all started laying about 3 weeks ago. None in the nesting boxes, but all in the same corner of the coop. Most days I only have 2 eggs, some days 3, but rarely do all 4 lay on the same day. No stress. They free range on...
