Hi BYC,
I have let two of my mandarin girls sit on some eggs and looked what they have produced!
Check out my video on youtube
Hope to here from u soon
Hi there.
You will want 2-3 nest boxes per pair as they like the variety an choose their favourite. Even then you got to hope the male is doing the business because its likely her eggs will not be fertile first time.
Wait about a week or two with the new boxes in and you'll be supprised. Make...
Hi there,
from experience; if you are seeing the drake treading alot you would get fertile eggs.
It is obivous that the drake is sterile and you need a new drake. The female is probably ok as she is still laying, however introducing a new drake within that pair might cause trouble and you will...
Hi there,
I haven't had any experience doing that, however the problems you have are:
- the mandarin eggs will be at a different stage than the mallards and will probably need to be sat on constantly now.
- maybe the mallard might know if there not her eggs?
Otherwise if you have surplus eggs...
I'm from England.
The only law I know of is that if a bird it's not indigenous to this country they should be pinioned. I don't believe there is any law to permit the birds. I have never heard of toe clipping to mark idendity? Why wouldn't you just ring the birds with your own initials engraved ?
That's good.
The only way they can affect eachother is if the eggs are left in there unfertile as bacteria will form.
I don't know what u mean by toe clipping ?
Hi there,
Theres no real tips for incubating mandarin eggs.
Have the temperature set on your 37.5 degrees and humidity at 50-60% humidity and for the last three days stop turning and have humidity at 60%+.
Do use inside hydgrometers to compare readings on digital display.
Alot of people say...
The female is significantly more pale in colour than the usual orange females. So I thought Ild give a go at trying to bring the white out in her.
Any suggestions to do this?
I also have blue ringed teal ill get some pictures of those to show u.
hi there,
yes i use inside thermometer to check temp is correct.
My idea for removing eggs on this particular bird is to leave two eggs in her box till she lays 3 then remove 1 when she has 3 again. As it is common knowledge that birds can only count up to three and any extra is surplus...
I thought you meant silver mandarins specifically because they are a mutation colour. I have Chilean teal eggs in incubator now and they are doing well
I had 12 normal mandarin eggs. 12 fertile and hatched.
temperature set at 37.5 c 50% humidity. 60% last 3 days. All hatched ok using a rcom20 . Now I use an rcom50.
i must add the lid was only removed once during incubation so heat was constant.
