Emergency! I found a newly hatched chick in the middle of the coop this morning, rejected by the brooding mama and looking close to death. I picked him up, he is responding slightly to touch and warmth. I put him under a heat lamp inside. Is there anything else i can/should do? Jea been under...
Out of 16 eggs, many of which had been refrigerated, I only have one that's still developing. its scheduled to hatch in 4/13.. If I'm lucky and thus little chuck makes it, will he be OK by himself?? I get lonely for him just thinking about it :(
Another question - I want to try hatching another...
Looking for a stag, really any strain except white or grey colored. Located in CT, willing to travel to MA or NY, possibly even northeastern PA.. Anyone looking to re home?? Would also be interested in fertile eggs!
I ended up closing up the whole flock in the coop for like 2 days straight during a storm and that seemed to have reset their habit. Now I find them in the coop after dark without the cat and mouse game.
.. I guess the trick is getting them all in at once!
Congratulations neighbor! We are in SH too! Just got my "first"egg a few weeks ago.. Although it was kinda cheating b/c it was from a hen I adopted that was already laying ;)
.. Still waiting for my first pullet to lay! Yours is a big one! What breed?

Ok so I've been trying all these ideas and every night I find my rooster out with one wandering hen... Its like 16° out and chasing them around is getting old... Help!!
My new Austra white wandered off yesterday morning and never came back... Neighbors said they saw her and fed her some bread and never saw her again :( looked all over for her .. No sign
So I know chickens may not lay in the winter, but I've also heard of chickens being egg-bound and dying. How can I tell if my chicken is ok?? I got her in the beginning of July when she was 6wks old.. She had yet to lay a single egg. She was completely free ranging until about 3 wks ago I...
Hello! Have you got yours in a run or free range? We have had many predators around, we rebuilt our coop to prevent any more loss. This is my first winter with chickens so not sure if the cold makes the coyotes/fox/raccoon etc. braver?
Are you going to give them any light over the winter to...
