I have a Rooster I hatched. He was very skittish and still is to a point, but now that the hormones kicked in he is really trying to become top guy. Poor little guy. He doesn't stand a chance. I have a full RIR rooster that is older. Not going to happen in his life. He does attack though...
Mine love their watermelon, corn on the cob and I freeze frozen corn in water in muffin tins and give it to them on hot days frozen and they peck at it. I have given them beans, strawberries, peas. corn and watermelon is their favourite.
My girls do follow my guy but they will come to me just a readily. He accepts me and dances around me like he does the hens. He has always accepted me that way.c Now my partner is another story he will challenge him. lol. My guy is still young and can't keep his girls all together. It is...
I pick mine one hen up all the time. At first my rooster didn’t like it. He would make a fuss. He then realized I wasn’t stealing her and now he is ok with it. He knows I will return her.
I feed them their later feed but they love their clover when they are out in the lawn but I give them lettuce and watermelon and all that kind of stuff. It always goes back to their main diet is still the feed. It balances them for sure.
Thanks. They were in the house for the first two weeks then I moved them in there after that. I am not worried about my rooster. It is a couple of my hen/pullets. They can be a bit bullyish.
I have 11 4 week old sex links. Black and red. They have been in the coop separated with a gate( the more mature can see them) for about 2 weeks.
When do people introduce the young ones physically to the flock? The last set I did it at about 8 weeks and there really has t been a problem...
We build a 10' x 10' x 6' shelter with chicken wire and a tarp over top. with 2 x 2's. It isn't pretty but it works great for our group. Now that I have more to add I have to add an annex on. We looked into buying a prefab. We had the same problem you did. There isn't a lot around to suit...
Thanks. I have never seen one of those breeds. He is a very nice boy so far. Very laid back. Hopefully when he gets older when the hormones kick in he will remain the same. I I don't have any bantam hens but he is bonded to two pullets right now. An australorp and a lavendar orpington.
