Thank you for all the replies! I think I'm going to try tube feeding her, however I won't be able to until tomorrow so in the mean time I'm going to keep trying to give her wet crumbles and vitamin/electrolyte water. I also got some applesauce for her because I read it's okay for them to eat...
4 days ago we had a fox attack, it killed 2 chickens, nearly blinded another, and one is in critical condition. It seems only her head was hurt, no body injuries. Both eyes are swollen shut (I checked, both are still intact but both pupils were dilated), and she can't seem to close her mouth...
Definitely a rooster! You can tell by the long tail feathers. He probably will get a little aggressive as he grows up but they usually calm back down a bit after the surge of testosterone :-)
My Wyandotte didn't start laying until she was 8 months old, so I think it's normal! She started squatting for me at about exactly 8 months and then was laying within the next few days. I don't think it's anything to worry about :)
I've had some game hens lay their eggs and sit super high up, so the chicks must have eventually jumped because they always get down and are fine. They are way tougher than they look!
I just got some recently and have already put them outside (in a coop). I think they're about a month and a half and seem to be doing just fine. Just make sure the temp is right and that they aren't getting wet or anything. I'm new to silkies but from what I've read they're a lot more sensitive...
Alright here she is one last time at 12/13 weeks. Almost 100% sure she is a girl, but she hasn't layed an egg yet sooo! Thank y'all for your help :) She definitely had me fooled for a while
So sorry for your loss. Losing a chicken is always hard :(
I have bad experiences with dogs and chickens. So much so that I will probably never have my own dog. Once someone asked me to take care of one of their chicks that was blind for whatever reason, and when I went to pick them up they...
I try to get mine out a couple times a day also if I want them to be tame. It helps if you try picking them up from the side, because coming from straight above them scares them. I put down a towel for mine but it seems they want to go EVERYWHERE but the towel!
For most chickens it seems like...
I posted this in another thread but maybe y'all can help, is this a pullet or roo? It was supposed to be a pullet but I'm not so sure now that the comb is reddening up. And yes I know he/she is supposed to have a rose comb but we can't all be perfect
Thanks for the replies :) I figured he/she wasn't pure, I bought it at a feed store. But they're already more of a pet so it doesn't matter really, hopefully she is a girl so I can get some eggs. I'll post some more pictures in a few weeks when they've grown a bit!
