So for now it appears I have to pure Poms and three Sebs in the little clutch that hatched here. I think of those three two are ganders [darnit] but its tough to know at this point as I don't vent sex. Two are lighter grey and one is darker and the two lighter are the ones stretching out their...
We have babies! They started hatching in the last 24. There are three so far, though one looks like a Pom. Everything will be saddle if I am not mistaken. I would be glad if I were as a few whites would be very welcome.
I want to share that I did feel a little guilty taking the goslings...
Kim yours look nice and that gander from Pips has a great neck and head.
I am at the point where I am more worried about the sharing of the nest that is suddenly going on. I have never separated before and hoped for some tried and true advice. This year is going to be chalked up to 'work'...
Well... they might really be dual purpose then? I am hoping very much that between the new gander and my newly discovered gander I can get some pure Sebs here.
I have eggs due in the first week of May.
Thank you Seminole. I was laughing but not too. It certainly is a disappointment in some ways. NOW I have to wait to see who does hatch and hope that there is at least one female in there I can use or that someone nearby has a great one. I am not holding my breath. Its been a rough go the...
Well... I have a story... I have struggled with my beautiful Verbena, as some of you might have read. I got another gander hoping that she would be loved by that new gander since the rest of the flock as driven her off or she has decided not to hang with them. The new gander is working out...
OH! NH is near me! I had no idea you were so close. Sadly I have a surplus of ganders myself. The new one is working out really well with my darling saddle girl as far as personalities.
So far the new boy is attaching himself to the female I had hoped. She is very tolerant of him. He tried mating a few times... fell off quite unsuccessful. Please, chime in and all reassure me he is going to figure it out lol
This new gander might work out well. He was so desperate to breed yesterday that he was after a duck a couple times. So, since I have yet to see my smooth breasted gander mate my lovely saddle back curly goose I swapped him out for the new curly gander. I don't believe breeding curly to curly...
I have now put all four Sebs together hoping competition might get me some pure eggs. This farm has gone from a "frozen hell" to "Spring chaos." Sigh. I am not seeing many eggs either but that's Sebs for ya. I am jealous of friends with babies in the teen quantity. I set five more eggs and...
It was every time we approached or stood near him his first day here. I am trying to give him some space and time to adjust. Now if I can just convince his potential mate to stop harassing and biting him. If its not one thing its another. I hope its just an over reaction on his part.
Thank you for this response. I have never seen this in a goose and its clearly not what I expected. It certainly concerns me, esp when put into the framework of his former flock rejecting him or at least not letting him mate anyone. I put him out in a pen and let him walk around after some...
I have a gander that just arrived who is flipping over. He hisses and reaches back instead of out front of him and flips over. The woman who brought him swears he wasn't doing that before the box and I believe her. What can I do to help correct this?
She laid an egg last night. She wants in the barn to do that. Its her second egg that I know of and the first was laid in there as well. I am going to get another gander for her this weekend [I think]. I will close them both in the barn together for a while and hope like heck that they...
Two things:
I set eggs, seven of them, but I think they are 'mutts' which are really Pom Seb crosses.
Opinions: I have one goose who isn't being mated and who isn't hanging with the flock or anything else. I don't know what is going on with her and can't figure it out for the life of me.
