Yup! And it's about time! But wow, such a guessing game right to the end 😳
I'm going to miss this thread though, big thanks to you, @HorseGirlAbby and @NanaK for joining in!
I do have 13 silkie chicks that are 6 weeks old now, it will soon be time to start guessing on them 😃 there are a...
Cornfuzzled accurately describes my state on this little bird too! If there's a likely looking egg in that box tonight I'll try to remember to post a pic here!
I caught Cappy Llama in the nesting box again this morning. I've gotten 4 small pale eggs over the last week, seen some silkie feathers in the boxes and had a pale egg with a white silkie feather stuck to it. I'm thinking Cappy Llama is actually a pullet! Which is crazy because they just...
I busted Cappy Llama in the nesting box today checking things out. He isn't quite 19 weeks yet, so even if he was a she, it's a bit young for a silkie I think?
So, I'm still confused, because Cappy Llama is totally developing a comb. Not the same as the for sure cockerels, but a comb none the less. It still has female feathering except for the more male poof. 🙄
Help! 🤣🤣🤣
I didn't get updated photos last night (distracted by the silkie pullet running around with a dead mouse) but my husband said he saw Cappy Llama, the silkie in gender question, squat when the rooster went up to the fence next to it. It is 17 weeks old, no crowing, no big changes in the...
Here are the boys, it's hard to really capture how their feathers look on the camera. You can kind of see how their feathers pull tighter around their body right in front of their tail where Base the pullet, and Cappy the unknown have just a big poof between their body and tail.
This is what makes it fun. I'm glad I'm not in a hurry to have to know one way or the other 🤣 if it is a cockerel and it never crows, maybe I could start a new line of "city" chickens for those who want a rooster but aren't supposed to have them. I could call them Silent Silkies or City...
@Tookie the story may be continuing 😅 So, I took a closer look at the two boys and Cappy, now I'm on the fence again 🥴 I haven't seen Cappy grabbing at the girls since that first morning I moved the boys out. I saw the boys have definite saddle feathers, I didn't get a photo but I will try to...
I'm thinking cockerel now. I moved the two other cockerels out of the coop this morning because they are starting to grab the oullets by the neck and just hold them as they try to get away. This evening I saw Cappy grab a pullet and peck at a few on the back of the neck as they went by. It's...
Here are the two silkie cockerels, somebody is crowing in the mornings now, but as soon as I can scramble to the windowto see who it is they never make another peep. 🤣 I'm not sure I could even really tell them apart from the distance between the house and the coop but I'm determined to try 😃
I thought it has been weeks since I last posted Cappy the maybe cockerel, not as long as I thought, but here's fresh photos from today. 14 weeks old tomorrow.
In the photo with 2 silkies Cappy is on the left. Still no wattles and just a thickened comb no significant growth.
