Hi everyone,
About two months ago, I bought a trio of bantam Wyandottes from a man at a show. I later learned that he was not a reputable breeder as one of the birds he sold me got sick and died almost immediately after I got her. Well, the two I have left (one hen and one cockerel). Are doing...
Hi everyone! Thought I'd start this thread because of the popularity on the March Hatch-a-Long thread. Here's the story: This winter, all of my show birds were killed by a hawk, including my beloved frizzle Cochin bantam, Flo. At the beginning of this January I had 10 birds. By January 8th, I...
Hi,
I have some 6 w/o bantam Cochins. About 2 1/2 weeks ago I hatched some LF chicks, and not knowing where to put them as the brooder was in use, put them in a "temporary" brooder. Well, they've about outgrown their temporary brooder and was wondering - would they be okay with the bantam...
Hi everyone,
This past weekend, I went to a show and purchased a trio of bantam Wyandottes. They seemed healthy and fine at the show, and I checked them for mites/lice at the show as the breeder mentioned that two he was planning on bringing that morning had lice - but these guys were clean. So...
Hi,
Yesterday, I got a trio of black Bantam Wyandotte's. After the deaths of all my show birds (hawks) I needed something full grown to show this spring. So yesterday I went to an auction and what do you know, I come across a nice looking trio. I just had to get them, especially the cockerel. He...
Hi everyone! I recently got a Brinsea Mini Advance. I've also noticed, here on BYC, that these small 'bators seem to be very popular, and are often purchased by first time ever hatchers, like me. So, I figured we needed an official thread for tips, tricks, and recommendations for this incubator...
Is it better to use paper towels or shaving for 4 day old chicks? I'm getting mine tomorrow, (6) and I'm pretty sure they hatched on Monday. Why do so many people use paper towels for the first week or so? I'm debating if I should put shavings (what I normally use for chicks.) or paper towels in...
...incubator pretty much does it all, turns eggs, monitors temputures, and even a countdown to hatch, all at the touch of a button. I'm getting SQ hatching eggs from a friend today, so if I get everything figured out, *hopefully* I'll be setting eggs tomorrow. I'm pretty clueless.
Thanks for any...
Hello,
I'm looking to buy a good, nice, incubator. I've never hatched eggs before and I am going to start breeding Heritage Bantam RIR's so I need one. What do you guys recommend for a beginner? I was thinking this one:

Hello,
I have a pullet (she'll be a hen in Febuary). who's comb and waddles have gotten pale. She acts fine, eats/drinks normally, no mites/lice and is overall very healthy. She acts like her self, super friendly and pushy for treats. She is a Bantam, and hasn't laid an egg since August when I...
Hello,
Tonight, I got home and wasn't feeling very well, so I rested a bit. Then, I went out to check on my flock, (It was dark by this time). and noticed MOLD growing on the poo on one of the roosts! The "roost" I'm talking about it actually a self, as my coop is an old garden shed. Some...
I'm having some problems intergrating a new bird into my flock, a Serama to be exact. I got her from a show, and she is very tiny (3 months old) and still tweets. My Bantams (1 Cochin Frizzle, 1 BPR, and 1 Partridge Wyandotte) are in the coop I'm planning on putting her in. I never have any...
Hello,
I'm going to a show next weekend. I'm bringing 2 birds, plus whatever I decided to buy there. I know for sure I'm getting chicks, but maybe some adult birds as well. Well, I was wondering if it would be safe to quarntine all of the adult birds together since I will be bringing them home...
Last night, I changed from shavings to sand in my coop. Today, when I got up and went to check on them, they weren't walking on the coop floor! 2 we're on the roost, and they other in the nesting box. They will go get their food/water, but soon after that they go back to their places! Why do...
This August, I bought a Bantam Barred Plymoth Rock at the county fair... And am worried she may have Scaley leg mites. As a precaution, I have been spraying her and her coop mates with Manna Pro's Scaley Leg Mite Protector. She may be shedding scales though, I was told she's a little over 2...
I looked and didn't see a very recent Frizzle thread, so I thought we needed a new one. Please post pics of your Frizzles, show quality or pet quality, and where you got them. Also, this thread will deal with breeding and genetics. I will post pics ASAP. But I am Frizzle obsessed.:P
Hello,
I'm an active chicken shower and decided to give away my LF birds and focus on Bantams. Since we are getting rid of the LF, the coop is going with them, and we are going to build a nicer, chicken tractor. So, my question is, what's an ideal size coop for 8-10 Bantam hens? Right now we...
Could someone please direct me too some refrences or tell me some internal body parts on chickens? I'd like to know what's in there. Plus, it will help me with showmanship. Thank you!
So I was debating which thread I should put this in, between Incubating and Hatching Eggs. (?) So I ended up with this one. Next month, I am getting some Bantam Polish Frizzle chicks at a show from someone who made a deal with me. I am hoping to get 3-4, but it really depends. Anyways, how much...
So I have a Bantam Wyandotte show hen. I'm concerned that she might have Scaley Leg mites. I'm taking her to a show next weekend, and I do not want to give any other chickens any if she does have them. If she does have them then I'm sure they are the beginnings of it.
Thanks for any help!
