I keep the feeder and water full (partially with ice), but I sometimes make a wet mash mixed with their own hard boiled eggs, pasta, frozen peas and string beans, collards and kale, so they have quite the buffet on occasion.
I'm thinking about making some sort of water feature where they can...
My garage has a large vent (near the ceiling) and another (near the floor). I also keep the garage door elevated a few inches to keep the circulation going. On top of that big brooder with the circular cutouts, there is a large circular fan that fits perfectly. There is constant air movement...
My garage faces W/NW, and they are feeling the heat. No A/C in the garage. The run is overgrown with weeds, and being on several medications, it's just hard to have the motivation to get things done around here. They still have room to move around.
It could be midnight, and they're just standing around in complete darkness. Kinda reminds me of Hogans Heroes planning that underground escape. I don't know what they're up to.
I think that a nutritional, "non-junk" treat would be considered as a supplement to their diet if they can't free range. I can only imagine the deep colored yolks and the taste of those eggs with hard shells and boosted Omega-3. All the sprouting, fodder and fermented feed can do nothing but...
I was concerned because I found an egg two weeks ago. A few days later, there were two. After that, I saw an Austra-White stand up against the wall, pulsating, and plopped out an egg. I can't remember which color, but someone is laying a light beige and someone else is laying a light tan. It...
I made them a late brunch for the first time. Hard boiled eggs, ripped up pepper jack and cheddar cheeses, in a bed of Collard greens. There may have been some BOSS and other goodies in there, too, but no meat this time. I think they actually licked the bowl...LOL!
I put a couple of hard-boiled eggs, shells and all, in the food processor and give them a rough chop, which they readily eat. They don't seem to be crazy about BOSS, but they eventually eat them. There is also Nutrena scratch (used sparingly), mealworms and also add some Collard greens and...
Well, my greedy guts aren't lacking in the protein department. Sometimes, I go out there and turn on the light late in the evening, and they're standing around talking quietly among themselves. Wish I knew what they were discussing.
They get a reward ONLY when they finish their feed, whether...
I've probably asked this before, and went back at least 20 pages to see, but supposedly an All Flock Raiser has higher protein than a layer feed, but less in calcium.
I don't know which route to take right now.
His postings may have gone back as far as 2008, but he was around when I joined in 2012. He was very knowledgeable and offered a lot of advice for us AZ folks.
Hey...This is Arizona!!! The critters/predators out here are different from the East coast. And, if you have to dispatch a predator/pest, to me, it's no big deal. We all have to do what is necessary for our (and livestock/pets) well being. Only the strong survive. I have no problem with it...
