Hi all,
I have posted about my faverolle, Aurora and this problem before but it is still on going.
This problem started around March 2015. She began this quiet cough/sneeze thing. At first it was just a couple of times a day, and then got a bit louder and a bit more consistent.
This is more...
Hello,
I too have a sneezing chicken. She has been sneezing for a few months now. My flock has mycoplasma but Tylan and baytril didn't have any effect on this little chicken this time around. The bacteria may have become resistant and need a different antibiotic.
I'm currently waiting for my...
Hello there!
Sounds like you're having a rough time at the moment
I'm just wondering why you think antibiotics wouldn't do much good?
A few years ago I purchased some chickens from a breeder that came with mycoplamsa, once or twice a year its rears its ugly head. Sometimes just one...
Well I've just got back from the vets, I love the lady we are seeing now she is so thorough and I can tell she's doing everything she thinks should be done (not to say the original vet wasn't, he is also amazing but she has many more years experience and it's good to get two opinions).
She wants...
Hello!
If it were me I'd take her to the vets straight away. It could be fungal or an infection and need treatment, in my experience respiratory infections in chickens don't usually resolve themselves without antibioitcs, the chicken usually gets too poorly and exhausted and stops eating. It's...
Oh yes I used to give my chicken probiotic yoghurt when they had been on antibiotics, but I had totally forgot about it this time around! (probably because I haven't been on the forum in over a year). I will pick some up tomorrow, thank you :)
Helloo,
I only have 5 chickens in a 4x6 shed, well ventilated, cleaned every morning and thoroughly cleaned once 4-6 weeks.
Honestly even I'd sleep in there :-)
I'm really sorry to hear about your little girl :(
I've had a few egg bound chickens and in my experience they always show obvious signs - first day will be sitting in the nest box most of the day, the next day they will often be puffed up, droopy wings, looking tired and "pushing" to lay a...
I just want to say how sorry I am this happened to you, it must be awful :( I hope your little girl survives.
As for your neighbour "you can shoot my dog"?!?!?!?! What a @#!%. I hope he has to pay the damages.
How frustrating! Two occasions I have bought birds from breeders they have brought illness (respiratory and scaly leg mite) and it boils my blood
I began treating my girls leg mite with vaseline but she is a huge Orpington and too heavy for me to lift with one arm so it's extremely difficult...
Oh no :( have you had any tests done on your silkies?
Luckily Aurora doesn't have a problem breathing through her nose, I've never seen her breath out of her mouth apart from after giving her Doxyclycline.
I hope your silkies get better
Thank you very much for the info!
I've never used hay because of risk of mold, but have been wondering for a while if it may be fungal. The first vet mentioned a fungal infection a few months ago but the tests he sent away last month only showed the bacterial infection.
As all the antibiotics...
Hi all! Hope you're all doing well :)
I was hoping someone might be able to shine a bit of light on this problem that has been going on for 4-5 months now (maybe even longer).
My lovely faverolle, Aurora, started coughing/sneezing quite a few months ago now. She has no other symptoms other...
Glad she seems to be snapping out of it :)
Mine is still being a broody madam, just keep chucking her out, but all she does is make a nest outside for 5 mins and then go straight back to the nest box.
I would usually wait til all have laid and then shut the pophole so she can't get back to the...
LOL! Well that's fine too :) Would rather her not be broody to be honest. Much easier for me haha!

So's my goldtop. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about her, other than hope the weather puts her off. At least she's not attacking the favs when they need to lay now!
Hi everyone!
Well one of my favs (one who isn't laying yet) seems to have had a growth spurt and is definitely not a bantam!! Odd that the other two are still small though.
Two weeks ago I moved the favs from their little coop into the big coop, problem is, they are STILL not taking...
Yes I think I will let my goldtop hatch some chicks next spring as she is so determined.
Good news is my welsummer seems to finally be unbroody!!! She perched in the coop last night instead of sleeping on the first - first time in months! And hasn't even looked at her broody corner :)
I know, I really cannot believe she did that, never even thought of something like that happening.
I'll have to just let her get on with it for now (although will keep turfing her out when I find her in the nest box) and put some extra nest boxes in so hopefully there will be no arguments, and...
