We tried Bestens and they were fine (this was prob 5 years ago). It was quite chaotic early in the morning. I have been using Antoneli's in Providence for our turkeys and been pretty happy. The cost went up last year to $.55/lbs from $.29 the year before. Which was a bit of a shock when I...
Have you tried the Homesteaders of New England Facebook group? I believe Kim Enos has them from time to time and she is someone who knows her stuff (unfortunately I couldn't find her contact info)
I think you're right. Barred and Swedish = cockerals. The Marans is looking more like a pullet.
The Legbar will lighten in the coming months and the Swedish's color may change as it gets older.
Thanks for the pictures!
LOL at the mohawk! They are adorable!
Sexing the chicks can be so tough even as they get older. We are raising out some pullets and won't know for sure until they are about 4 months old. The problem really comes down to it being easier to identify males than it is to identify females. After we...
Hi Kdogg, that's us :)
We are currently breeding FBCM (Little Peddler), Cream Legbar, Silkies, Heritage RI Reds and Barred Rocks, Polish, Serama and Swedish Flower.
A big THANK YOU to everyone for the kind words on here.
Great to see some friends here ; @ Merrymouse and AmandaKyle

Hey everyone, it's been awhile. I wanted to hop on and share some pictures of our coop progress. We designed this here at the farm and are super excited about its possibilities. Essentially, it is a coop that houses 2-3 birds but can grow to house 8-9 with an expansion set (called Courtyard). It...
Well my rooster, Shakespeare, has decided that he wants nothing to do with his girls. Anyone in Southeastern Mass area have a Barred Rock roo available?
One winter hardy breed that I personally love is the Swedish Flower. They seem to like the winter and are the first out of their coop on the mornings that there is snow on the ground. That being said, I really hope we are done with snow. The past few days have been BEAUTIFUL!!!
Sorry for the delay in responding! Things have been hectic the past few weeks.
byc4me - Thank you so much for the kind words and the recommendation! It is really appreciated!
Apocha14 - I am sorry for not responding. I try to get back to all of our customers, but unfortunately sometimes...
This reminds me of the blizzard we got in February 2013. We had 48 eggs in an incubator and lost power at day 19! We ended up putting it in the oven on the top rack, two small candles underneath and left the door slightly open. The incubator was ruined but the chicks hatched!
It's been awhile since I was able to get on here but the one good thing about snow is that I have time to get caught up. Welcome to all of the new members, especially our neighbors in the South Coast.
The blizzard is no fun, but new pictures are! Here are some that I've been meaning to share:
Congrats on the new peeps and welome to BYC!
I am using my phone on the road right now (don't worry my wife is driving) so I haven't seen the pictures but I thought I would chime in on coop design. It is smart that you are giving this a lot of thought.
I recommend:

I see farming changing. There is a movement taking place where more and more people are getting into backyard flocks and small scale farms for the first time. Many without any experience whatsoever. We can only hope that this will continue to expand and maybe one day put pressure on Big...
Sorry, I thought I had replied to you but it never posted.
We have fertile eggs for sale, Easter Eggers, Black Copper Marans, Swedish Flower, Barred Rock and RI Red in Acushnet Ma. All naturally fed flock.
